Chapter 123 - War of Faith: Part 53

The battlefield was unrecognizable.

What was once a valley… was now a wasteland of shattered stone and deep fractures stretching in every direction.

Smoke drifted slowly through the air.

The sky was clear again.

Too clear.

Like nothing had happened.

But on the ground—

The cost of the war was visible everywhere.

Silence After War

Hiroto lay still on the broken ground.

Akari held him carefully, one hand supporting his head.

"…Stay with me."

Her voice was quieter now.

No command.

No strength.

Just… concern.

Yui knelt beside them, her hands trembling slightly as she checked his breathing.

"He's alive…"

"…but barely."

Akari exhaled slowly, relief mixing with exhaustion.

"…Idiot…"

She looked down at him.

"…You pushed too far."

Hiroto didn't respond.

He was completely unconscious.

Around them, the remaining soldiers slowly began to regroup.

Some helped the wounded.

Some sat in silence, unable to process what had just happened.

Others simply stared at the sky.

"…We survived…"

"…That thing… it actually left…"

The Watcher walked through the battlefield quietly, observing everything.

His expression was heavy.

"…This wasn't a victory."

Akari looked at him.

"…We're still alive."

He nodded once.

"…For now."

Stretches of the battlefield were empty.

Entire squads… gone.

Weapons scattered with no one left to hold them.

The ground itself was scarred permanently.

Yui looked around, her expression tightening.

"…So many…"

Akari didn't say anything.

She already knew.

This was the price of facing something beyond human.

A short distance away, the Enforcer stood alone.

He looked up at the sky where the Herald had disappeared.

"…So they pulled back."

He exhaled slowly.

"…Interesting."

Yui approached him carefully.

"…You're just going to stand there?"

He glanced at her.

"…What else should I do?"

She frowned.

"We almost died."

He shrugged slightly.

"…Yeah."

Then his gaze shifted toward Hiroto.

"…But that kid changed things."

Akari overheard that.

"…What do you mean?"

The Enforcer's expression turned more serious.

"…That wasn't supposed to happen."

"…A Herald retreating?"

"…That's not normal."

The Watcher stepped closer.

"…He's right."

"…This will trigger something bigger."

The Land Itself

The ground beneath them was still.

But different.

The scar in the valley hadn't disappeared.

It had… settled.

As if something had awakened—

And gone back to sleep.

Akari looked down at the fractured earth.

"…This place won't ever be the same."

The Watcher nodded.

"…Neither will the world."

Final Moment

Akari adjusted her grip on Hiroto and stood slowly.

"We're leaving."

Yui nodded immediately.

"…Yeah."

The remaining soldiers began moving together, carrying the wounded.

No one celebrated.

No one cheered.

They simply… survived.

As they walked away from the ruined valley—

The camera of the moment lingers—

On the battlefield.

On the cracks.

On the silence.

And far above—

Beyond the clouds—

Something was watching.

Waiting.

To be continued…
