Chapter 124 - War of Faith: Part 54

The news spread faster than fire in dry grass.

Not through messengers.

Not through word of mouth.

But through fear.

The Ruined Valley

By the time the survivors reached the nearest settlement, the story had already begun to change.

"…A celestial being descended…"

"…The sky itself opened…"

"…A man fought it… and survived…"

The details were unclear.

But one truth remained consistent:

Something impossible had happened.

A Hidden Shrine – Far From the Battlefield

Deep within the mountains, far from the ruined valley—

An old shrine stood in silence.

Its structure worn by time.

Its presence… forgotten by most.

Inside, a single figure knelt before a dim flame.

A messenger arrived, breath unsteady.

"…It has been confirmed."

Silence.

"…A Herald descended."

The flame flickered.

The kneeling figure didn't move.

"…And?"

The messenger hesitated.

"…It failed."

For the first time The air in the shrine changed.

Heavy.

Unsettling.

"…Failed?"

"…Yes."

"…The target survived."

A long pause followed.

Then—

"…Interesting."

The flame dimmed slightly.

"…So the balance has shifted."

Somewhere Above the Clouds

Far beyond human reach Where the sky becomes something else entirely A vast, empty space existed.

Light moved like currents.

Silent.

Watching.

The presence of the Herald returned.

Damaged.

Unstable.

A voice echoed not loud, but absolute.

"Report."

The Herald lowered itself.

"Target classification revised."

"Shadow-Bearer exhibits abnormal growth."

Silence.

Then:

"Probability of future disruption?"

"High."

Another pause.

Longer this time.

Then—

"Observation priority increased."

"Do not engage without authorization."

The Herald remained still.

"…Understood."

But even here—

There was something unspoken.

Something beyond even this place.

Back to the Survivors

Night had fallen.

A small fire burned as the group rested.

Hiroto lay unconscious, wrapped in cloth.

Akari sat beside him, silent.

Yui rested nearby, exhausted.

Kenzaku (not yet introduced formally, just a distant figure watching optional teaser if you want to keep it subtle).

Goro stood slightly apart, watching over everything.

The Enforcer leaned against a tree.

"…You know this isn't over."

Goro didn't look at him.

"…I know."

The Enforcer glanced at Hiroto.

"…That kid just made himself a target."

Goro's expression hardened slightly.

"…Then we make sure he survives it."

Final Scene

The camera of the moment pulls away from the camp.

Higher.

Further.

Beyond the mountains.

Beyond the clouds.

Into darkness.

Where a faint silhouette sits upon something unseen.

No clear form.

No clear face.

Just presence.

Watching.

Waiting.

A voice, barely above a whisper:

"…So it has begun."

To be continued…
