Chapter 125 - War of Faith: Part 55

Darkness.

Not silence.

Not peace.

Just… weight.

Hiroto felt like he was sinking.

No ground.

No sky.

Just an endless void pressing in from all sides.

Fragments flickered.

The battlefield.

The Herald.

Akari's voice.

The moment he couldn't move.

The moment he almost died.

"…So this is what it feels like…"

His voice echoed in the void.

No answer came.

Only the faint pulse of something deeper.

The same rhythm he felt in the valley.

Slow.

Heavy.

Watching.

"…You again…"

The darkness didn't respond.

But it didn't leave either.

Reality

"…Hiroto…"

A voice cut through the void.

Faint.

Distant.

"…Hiroto, wake up…"

The darkness cracked.

Light seeped in.

Hiroto's fingers twitched.

Small.

Barely noticeable.

But enough.

Yui saw it first.

"…Akari."

Akari looked up instantly.

"…What?"

"He moved."

Akari leaned closer.

"…Hiroto?"

His breathing shifted.

Uneven.

Then His eyes opened.

Slowly.

Blurry at first.

Light stung his vision.

"…Where…"

His voice was dry.

Weak.

But alive.

Yui smiled, relief flooding her face.

"…You're back."

Akari didn't smile.

But her grip tightened slightly.

"…Took you long enough."

Hiroto blinked a few times, trying to focus.

"…We… survived?"

Akari nodded once.

"…Yeah."

"…Barely."

He exhaled slowly.

"…Good…"

For a moment—

No one spoke.

Just the quiet sound of wind moving through the trees.

Goro Steps In

Footsteps approached.

Heavy.

Measured.

Goro stood over him.

Looking down.

Silent.

Hiroto met his gaze.

"…I lost."

Goro didn't respond immediately.

Then:

"…No."

"…You didn't."

Hiroto frowned slightly.

"…I couldn't finish it."

Goro crossed his arms.

"…You're alive."

"…That's what matters."

A pause.

Then his voice hardened slightly.

"…But don't mistake survival for victory."

Hiroto's eyes sharpened a little.

"…Yeah…"

"…I know."

Hiroto tried to sit up.

Pain shot through his body instantly.

He winced.

"…Still broken…"

Akari pushed him back down.

"You're not moving yet."

He didn't argue.

Instead—

He looked at his hand.

The shadow didn't respond.

Not like before.

It was… quiet.

Contained.

"…Something's different…"

The Watcher, standing nearby, spoke softly:

"…You stabilized it."

Hiroto looked at him.

"…The scar?"

The Watcher nodded.

"…For now."

That "for now" hung in the air.

Heavy.

Hiroto closed his eyes again briefly.

Not unconscious.

Just thinking.

The Herald.

The power.

The feeling of losing control.

Then—

Akari's voice pulling him back.

His eyes opened again.

More focused this time.

"…Next time…"

Akari raised an eyebrow.

"…You're already thinking about next time?"

Hiroto looked at the sky.

Calm.

Determined.

"…I won't almost die."

Goro smirked slightly.

"…Good."

"…Because next time, I won't be there to watch you fall."

Hiroto didn't respond.

But his grip tightened slightly.

The war was over.

But something new had begun.

To be continued…
