Chapter 136 - A Place to Stand

The Clearing

The forest thinned.

Light poured through the gaps in the trees Soft.

Warm.

A small clearing opened ahead.

Quiet.

Hidden.

At its center A worn-down structure.

Wooden.

Old.

Half-forgotten.

Its roof slightly broken.

Walls marked by time.

But still standing.

"…This works," Goro said.

The group stepped in slowly.

Scanning.

No movement.

No danger.

Just silence.

Yui let out a small breath.

"…Finally…"

She dropped her pack gently near the entrance.

The Enforcer walked in, glancing around.

"…Not bad."

"…Could be worse."

Akari stepped inside, brushing dust off a wooden surface.

"…We'll need to clean it."

Goro nodded.

"…We're staying here for a while."

Hiroto Enters Last

He paused at the entrance.

Looking at the place.

Not impressed.

Not disappointed.

Just… accepting.

Then stepped in.

Goro turned to face everyone.

"…Rest for now."

"…We move at dawn."

The Enforcer smirked slightly.

"…Move where?"

Goro's eyes shifted briefly toward Hiroto.

"…Not far."

"…Just enough."

Hiroto understood.

This wasn't about traveling.

This was about him.

The sun lowered slowly.

Dust cleared.

Space made.

The group settled in.

Yui prepared basic supplies.

Akari reinforced part of the wall.

The Enforcer rested against a post.

The Watcher stayed near the shadows.

And Hiroto Sat.

Back against the wall.

Eyes half-closed.

Listening.

To his breath.

To his body.

To the pain.

It was still there.

Sharp.

Unforgiving.

"…Tch…"

His hand tightened slightly.

He hated it.

Not the pain But what it meant.

Goro Approaches

Heavy steps.

Slow.

Deliberate.

He stopped in front of Hiroto.

"…Stand up."

Hiroto opened his eyes.

"…Now?"

"…Now."

Hiroto pushed himself up.

His body resisted slightly.

But he stood.

Goro didn't draw his weapon.

Didn't change stance.

Just stood there.

"…Attack me."

Silence.

Akari looked up slightly.

Yui paused.

The Enforcer smirked.

"…Here we go…"

"…I'm injured."

Goro didn't blink.

"…Exactly."

Hiroto's grip tightened.

"…You're serious?"

"…Always."

This wasn't a fight.

This was something else.

Something harder.

Slow at first.

Testing his body.

Then—

A step forward.

Blade drawn.

Not reckless.

Not wild.

Controlled.

A clean swing.

Direct.

Goro moved slightly.

Not even a full step.

The blade missed.

A simple motion Goro's hand tapped Hiroto's shoulder.

Not hard.

But enough.

Hiroto lost balance.

Just slightly But enough.

He Stopped

Didn't fall.

But didn't continue either.

"…Again," Goro said.

Hiroto adjusted.

Slower.

More careful.

Another strike.

Blocked instantly.

Another tap.

This time Hiroto dropped to one knee.

No one spoke.

The message was clear.

"…You rely too much on movement."

"…Too much on instinct."

A pause.

"…No control."

Frustration flickered—

But didn't explode.

"…Then teach me."

Not in anger.

In approval.

"…I will."

A step back.

"…But first…"

A pause.

"…You unlearn everything."

Shock

Akari's eyes widened slightly.

Yui blinked.

The Enforcer chuckled.

"…Damn…"

Hiroto Freezes

"…Everything?"

Goro nodded once.

"…Everything."

The sun dipped lower.

Shadows stretched across the clearing.

And in that quiet moment—

A new path began.

Not of survival.

But of transformation.

To be continued…
