Alice's POV
I woke up still thinking about that photo Rebecca sent. The ring, the old smiles, everything felt like a weight on my chest. Bryan had promised to handle it, but I needed something else to focus on or I would go crazy waiting for the next message. After breakfast when the kids were settled, I picked up my phone and called Maya.
"Maya, it is Alice," I said when she answered. "I have thought about your offer. I want to accept the board position at TechNova. Part time only, but I am ready to join." I added
Maya sounded surprised but happy. "That is great news Alice. I know you just stepped back from your firm but we need your ideas. The first board meeting is tomorrow morning at ten. It is just strategy talk nothing too heavy. Can you make it?"
"I will be there," I replied as I watched Grace sleep in her crib. "This will help me stay sharp without being in the office every day. I need the distraction right now."
