A tremor passes through him, and he has to hide his grimace, but Day catches it.
"You're hurting," he murmurs, his hands splayed on his shoulders. "How can I help?"
"No," Travis shakes his head. "I will be okay, baby, promise."
"There is something you aren't telling. You did say that when you mated is when everything sensed that you were ready. So that means I can help, somehow. Right?"
"Day," he closes his eyes. "There is, but I don't want you to."
Hurt flashes in Day's face and eyes, and he has to look away because he is tearing up. It hurts that his mate doesn't want his help.
The rejection stings too much.

"But you did." Day starts to get up, but Travis doesn't let him, pulling him down and tightening his hold on him.
"I didn't. I want you to, I wish you would, but that isn't going to be good for you. It's a selfish thing for you to do it, and I don't want you to hurt."
