Chapter 128 - Chapter 5: The One Who Should Not Be Seen Twice

The scout was gone.

But the space they touched… did not heal.

-

Tiān Lán stood still.

The mountain wind moved around him normally again.

But something inside the air remained misaligned.

Like reality had forgotten a sentence mid-thought.

His Guardian Threads slowly loosened.

Not calm.

Careful.

The artifact beside him pulsed once.

Then stopped.

Completely.

Tiān Lán noticed immediately.

"…You're reacting."

No answer.

But inside him-

A faint distortion stirred.

For the first time since awakening-

The Mirror did not respond with silence or presence.

It responded with error.

A flicker in his vision.

Then-

A second Tiān Lán stood ahead of him.

Not illusion.

Not reflection.

But himself.

But wrong.

Subtle differences:

posture slightly older

eyes colder, emptier

presence heavier, like compressed time

The "other him" spoke first.

"So this is where you chose to stand."

Tiān Lán did not move.

"…You're not real."

The other smiled faintly.

"Neither are you. Not completely."

Before Tiān Lán could react-

The air behind him split open.

Not violently.

Professionally.

Like a sealed document being opened.

A new presence stepped out.

White-cloaked.

Silent Mirror Order.

But different from the scout.

This one carried weight.

Not aura.

Authority.

It looked at both Tiān Láns.

Then spoke softly:

"We made a mistake."

A pause.

"There are two of you."

Inside Tiān Lán-

The Mirror surged violently.

Not attacking.

Correcting.

The second "Tiān Lán" tilted its head.

"They are early."

A pause.

"You should not have been exposed yet."

The Silent Mirror agent stepped forward slightly.

Still calm.

Still emotionless.

But now… cautious.

"Mirror Echo deviation confirmed."

The air began to thin.

Not oxygen.

But certainty.

Tiān Lán felt it.

Something worse than danger:

Doubt entering his existence itself.

The second version of him spoke again:

"Tell me…"

A pause.

"Do you remember which decision made you real?"

Tiān Lán's expression tightened slightly.

The Silent Mirror agent interrupted softly:

"Do not answer him."

A pause.

"That is how synchronization begins."

The second Tiān Lán moved.

Instantly.

No technique activation.

Just overlap of position.

Guardian Threads reacted violently.

But-

They hesitated.

For the first time.

Because both presences were "valid candidates of existence."

Tiān Lán finally moved.

One step back.

Not retreat.

Calculation.

The artifact flickered again.

And for a split second-

All three saw something.

Not future.

Not past.

But a version where:

neither Tiān Lán survived becoming himself.

The Silent Mirror agent raised a hand.

Not to attack.

To seal.

"This cannot continue."

A pause.

"The Mirror Echo has begun producing identity forks."

The second Tiān Lán looked at the original.

Softly:

"You will choose wrong eventually."

Tiān Lán stared back.

"…I don't make mistakes."

A pause.

Then-

The second version replied:

"That is what all versions say."

The Silent Mirror agent activated something unseen.

The air compressed.

Reality began separating the duplicate presence.

The second Tiān Lán began fading.

Not dying.

Not disappearing.

Being reassigned out of this reality layer.

Before vanishing, he spoke once more:

"When you meet me again…"

A pause.

"Try to remember which one of us started forgetting first."

Silence.

The distortion ended.

The Silent Mirror agent remained.

Watching Tiān Lán carefully now.

"You are accelerating."

A pause.

"We may no longer be able to contain this quietly."

Then-

They vanished too.

Tiān Lán stood alone again.

But now-

He no longer trusted silence.

Because even silence had started sounding like someone else.
