Just after six in the evening, quitting time, Yan Ziruo arrived at her younger brother's office in the Little Red House. She found him standing in the inner room before the floor-to-ceiling window, his hands clasped behind his back.
She walked over to Yan Feifan's side, stood shoulder to shoulder with him, and glanced curiously at the view outside. "What are you looking at?" she asked.
"Introspection! Self-reflection!"
The answer surprised Yan Ziruo. "Introspecting about what?" she asked. "Did something happen? Did someone upset you?"
Yan Feifan turned, walked over to the sofa, and sat down. "I saw a patient this afternoon," he said softly, "and made a careless, presumptuous mistake."
"Well, well, isn't that a rare sight. So the genius doctor makes mistakes too."
Yan Ziruo sat down next to her brother on the sofa, her interest piqued. "Come on, tell me. What exactly did you do wrong?"
"You wouldn't understand even if I told you!"
