Once the inscription was written, Cecilia Adler was about to pay, but the young man had already beaten her to it.
Cecilia was surprised.
When they'd had noodles earlier, he only paid for himself. She had even paid for their ride. She'd thought he only brought enough money for the meal.
Cecilia took the sky lantern, which now had both their names and the words "A Blissful Union" written on it. "Let's go watch the dragon dance first," she said. "We can release the lantern after it gets dark, okay?"
"Cecilia."
"Hmm?" Cecilia looked at him, a little puzzled. 'This is the first time he's called me by my name since we got our certificate.'
'It feels a bit weird not hearing him call me 'wifey.''
"Whatever you say," he said.
Cecilia's eyes crinkled into a smile. The two of them watched the dragon dance, rode on a decorated boat, and saw stilt walkers. It wasn't until midnight that they found an open field to release their sky lantern.
