The atmosphere grew tense.
Trying to ease the tension, Lucas Lee smiled and said, "May, it's getting late. Why don't you get some cold dishes ready? Ian and I will have a drink later. You drink, don't you, Ian?"
Ian Quincy smiled as warmly as a spring breeze. "I'm not much of a drinker."
As May Sutton got up, she said, "Vivian, come and help me."
The moment Vivian Lee stepped into the kitchen, May Sutton's face went cold. "Did you go make up with that good-for-nothing Felix?"
"Mom, he has a name. It's Felix Flynn. Please don't look down on him anymore. It upsets him." Vivian Lee couldn't stand her parents disparaging Felix Flynn.
May Sutton's anger toward Ian Quincy had just started to fade when Vivian Lee fanned the flames again. "You're not even married to him yet, and you're already acting so subservient! How are you supposed to keep a man in line like that? You're going to regret this!"
