'So you have times when you need to beg me too.'
'But you're begging the wrong person.'
'How could I possibly help you?'
'Especially since you're twisting the truth.'
"How can I help?" she asked with false sincerity, toying with May Sutton.
"You need to ask your father-in-law to mediate your sister's situation. He's a high-ranking official; it would just take a word from him."
"I'm just a junior member of the family. Would he listen to me? You should go with Dad instead," Cecilia Adler demurred.
'If this were about Lucas Lee, it would be reasonable for me to ask.'
'Asking my father-in-law to help Vivian Lee? That's way out of line, isn't it?'
'It might be understandable to ask for help if I had already married into the Quillan family and we were all living together. But doing this before I've even officially joined the family? Does that seem right?'
