After signing for the package, Cecilia Adler noticed the return address was her southern hometown. The sender, surprisingly, was Educated Youth Hu.
'My relationship with Educated Youth Hu is lukewarm at best. Why would he send me something?'
Puzzled, she tore off the outer layer of wrapping from the package.
Inside was a long, rectangular box.
Tucked on top was a folded letter. On its surface, written with a calligraphy brush, were the words "For Cecilia's Eyes Only."
It was Grandma Hua Kui's handwriting.
'Is this to thank me for the cotton-padded coat?'
'Why be so formal? Sending a package back costs money, doesn't it?'
She unfolded the letter and began to read:
Cecilia, I received the cotton-padded coat you sent.
It's so warm.
Has it been 123 days since you went to the city?
Ever since you left, I haven't had a single good night's sleep. It's not that I miss you, but rather that I have no one for company. It's too lonely.
