She sent Aunt Goldsmith away and said privately, "Cecilia, your father-in-law told me you're from the Shaw family but that you don't plan on acknowledging them. If you ask me, it's better to be formally recognized. With the Shaw family backing you, you could do whatever you want. It would also be a great benefit to Ian's future."
Cecilia Adler didn't mince words. "Can't I be my own support? Or do you not believe Ian has the ability to succeed on his own? Or are you just repeating what Dad said?"
Mrs. Quincy quickly clarified, "It wasn't your father-in-law's idea, it was my own. Ian is temperamental, and I worry he'll offend people at work. If he has powerful connections, people won't dare to mess with him."
