Joy Dalton hadn't expected Mrs. Sterling to treat her so pleasantly, and she was quite surprised.
Mrs. Sterling looked at Joy Dalton's surprised expression and her eyelids drooped slightly. "My dear, as long as your heart is set on what's best for the two children and this family, an old woman like me certainly won't treat you unfairly. I'm not some wicked mother-in-law. It's not like I would abuse you, would I?"
Joy Dalton laughed sweetly. "Yes, Mom, I know. You're the best mother-in-law in the world."
Mrs. Sterling chuckled. "You and your silver tongue. Is that how you captured my boy Timothy's heart, too?"
Timothy Sterling looked uncomfortable. "Geez, Mom, what are you talking about!"
Despite his unease, Timothy Sterling was inwardly pleased. He was happy to see his mother and wife getting along peacefully.
