In truth, ever since that incident in Portcove, the relationship between them had become somewhat awkward.
After an exchange of stilted pleasantries, Aurora Sterling fell silent. She didn't know what to say to Dylan Valerius. After all, her relationship with his mother, Nancy Nash, could be described as being like fire and water.
Although she knew in her heart that Dylan Valerius was his own person, he was still Nancy's son. Aurora didn't want to put him in a difficult position.
It felt more natural to say nothing than to exchange false pleasantries. In Aurora's eyes, Dylan Valerius was her classmate. They shared the pure bond of schoolmates, and she didn't want anything to tarnish that.
Obviously, though, that was easier said than done. Their relationship was not so simple as just being classmates.
