After speaking, Sylvia Vaughn closed her eyes. No matter how her aunt pulled at her or spoke to her, she gave no reaction, as if she were fast asleep.
Her aunt stood by the bed, knowing Sylvia Vaughn was feigning sleep, and glared at her in exasperation. "You, child, I think there's something wrong with you!"
With that, her aunt stormed out of Sylvia Vaughn's room in a huff.
Only after hearing the door close did Sylvia Vaughn open her eyes again, staring lifelessly at the white curtains on the window.
This was her at her most sane. If Aurora Sterling hadn't rescued her from that ordeal, *that's* when she would have truly lost her mind.
Sylvia Vaughn knew her family was puzzled by her current attitude toward Joanna Jacobs. But she couldn't help it. She just couldn't bring herself to face Joanna Jacobs.
