In the hospital room, Nathan Redgrave's thumb hovered over his phone screen. He kept typing and deleting a phone number he knew by heart, one so familiar he could recite it backward.
At last, he brought himself to dial Hannah Hale's number. But a man answered, his voice rough. "Who the hell are you looking for?"
"Who is this? Why do you have her phone?"
The drunken man glanced at the lit screen, only then remembering he had stolen the phone. Without another word, he hung up.
When he called back, the phone was off.
