When Zachary Preston saw Vera Xavier pull out her school bag from over there, he frowned. "Why is your school bag here?"
Vera Xavier glanced toward the kitchen before softly recounting what had happened that day. Zachary Preston's blood boiled as he listened. He turned to confront Rona Langdon but was pulled back by Vera. "Dad, it's all in the past. Please don't fight with Mom again. I don't want you two arguing all day because of me."
Her maturity only served to highlight Rona Langdon's unreasonable stubbornness. Zachary Preston felt even more guilty. He heaved a long sigh and said, "Vera, you've been wronged."
"It's nothing," Vera Xavier said with a smile. "I believe Mom is all bark and no bite. My grades were truly terrible before, so it's perfectly normal for her to be skeptical. Once my grades stabilize and I get into a decent university after the college entrance exams, I'm sure Mom will stop talking about making me go work in a factory."
