Vera Xavier had always known Susan Caldwell was a great actress. To be so good at it that even her own parents had no idea what she did behind their backs—that was a skill in itself.
Susan Caldwell saw Vera Xavier as well. She seemed a little surprised, but quickly composed herself and even offered Vera a faint smile. To Vera's eyes, that smile held a hint of provocation.
Vera couldn't be bothered with Susan. Her war with Susan wasn't about petty squabbles like this.
However, just because she ignored her didn't mean Susan was ready to let it go.
Susan said something to the middle-aged woman, who then glanced in the direction Susan pointed, toward Vera. The woman gave a gentle nod, and Susan casually grabbed a bottled drink and walked out of the store.
Susan walked right up to Vera. "What a coincidence, running into you again. We must be fated to meet. A fate like this, though, is truly disgusting."
Vera smiled faintly and asked, "What do you want? Are you looking for trouble?"
