A soft chuckle came from the other end. "Remember me?"
Annabelle Linton's brow furrowed. She felt like she'd heard his voice somewhere before, but she couldn't quite place it.
"I don't know you, and I don't remember you. That's all," she said flatly.
With that, she hung up.
'This girl's got some real fire.'
A roguish smile touched Chase Lynch's lips. Holding Annabelle Linton's work ID in one hand, he narrowed his eyes slightly and called her back.
She didn't pick up until the third time he called.
Annabelle's lazy, impatient voice came through the receiver. "What now?"
Chase Lynch chuckled. "It's Chase Lynch. We met recently. You rode in my car—I gave you a lift to Emberwood Gardens. Don't you remember?"
Annabelle froze for a second as she searched her memory.
'Rode in his car...'
'The old manor...'
Annabelle remembered. It was him—the man she had run into the day she went to see Leona Grant's parents.
