Seeing his dejected state, Annabelle felt a pang of pain, as if a knife were carving out her heart.
Leona Grant looked at her tear-streaked face and said, his anger laced with a hint of grievance, "I won't divorce you. I won't let you go."
A sour bitterness welled up inside Annabelle. Fighting back her sorrow, she wiped away her tears and pushed him away, feigning indifference. "You're drunk."
Leona Grant wrapped his arms tightly around her, burying his face in the crook of her neck. "Annabelle Linton, I'm not getting a divorce!" he said stubbornly.
Annabelle took a deep breath to calm herself. "Get up first. I'll go run a bath for you."
"I won't let go!" Leona Grant lifted his head and stared at her intently, demanding, "Tell me you won't divorce me!"
Annabelle was silent for a moment before saying in a low, hoarse voice, "Don't be like this."
