Her hand hovered over the door handle as she took one last look in the direction of the hospital.
'Goodbye, Miles Xavier. I hope you don't find me this time.'
She slammed the car door shut, a little dazed.
Finn Norris suddenly leaned in, startling her.
She still wasn't used to being in such close contact with him. She instinctively shrank back, but the car was too small; there was nowhere to escape.
Finn Norris reached over to Joan Shaw's right side, pulled out the seatbelt, and buckled her in. Only then did she relax, feeling a little awkward.
"Joan, don't be nervous. I told you I'd give you plenty of time to adjust, so I won't force you into anything before then."
"I'm sorry, Finn. I was overthinking things..."
"It's okay. Sit tight. We're about to leave."
"What about my stepmother and stepsister? Why didn't they come with us?"
"That woman said she'd have a private car take them later and that we should go ahead."
