"Search! Tear this place apart and find her!"
Miles Xavier's eyes suddenly darkened, and his tone dropped by several degrees.
He had to find her. He had to confront her and ask: had she been lying to him all along?
"Yes, sir." Caleb Adler acknowledged the order and turned to leave.
In an instant, the atmosphere in the hospital room plunged to a freezing point.
No one dared to speak. No one dared to move. They all stood there silently, waiting for Miles Xavier to give his next command.
After a full day and night of searching, there was still nothing. Caleb Adler returned, weary from his travels, his hair and eyebrows dusted with fine snowflakes.
He clutched a small box in his hand as he hurried toward the hospital room.
With New Year's Day just a few hours away, he suddenly remembered what Joan Shaw had told him before she left.
The hospital room door was heavily guarded, and the atmosphere inside was stretched to its breaking point.
