"Nate Jennings, it's not that the company wants to lay you off. You know about the situation with Shona Joplin. It cost the company hundreds of millions. We're having cash flow problems right now, so we have to let some people go first. Don't worry, once things get back to normal, we'll hire you back."
Nate Jennings clutched a large box of her personal belongings and walked miserably out of the XX Film Company building. She glanced back one last time at the place where she had worked for two years, where she had poured the best years of her youth, and burst into tears.
'Why was I the one laid off because of Shona Joplin's scandal? Why, if the company is having cash flow problems, are the hundreds of other employees fine, while I'm the one who's become a burden?'
'Did I eat a few extra bowls of rice on the company's dime, or drink a few extra barrels of water?'
