POV: Maya
It started innocently enough.
Maya was in the training yard working on combat drills with some of the pack's newer members. There was a wolf named Tyler, young, strong, relatively new to the pack, who'd been assigned to help her with some advanced techniques.
He was a good fighter. A good teacher. And apparently, according to the way his eyes lingered on her during training, he had other interests as well.
"You're getting stronger every day," Tyler said during a water break, his smile carrying a hint of something more than friendly encouragement. "The pack's lucky to have you."
"Thanks," Maya said, not thinking much of it. "I'm getting better at integrating the wolf strength with tactical awareness."
"You're also getting more beautiful," Tyler said casually. "I'm sure Kai's aware of how lucky he is."
Maya felt the mate bond ripple with something, Kai's awareness of the conversation carrying through the connection.
