Chapter 118 - CHAPTER 119: GATHERING STORM

CHAPTER 119: GATHERING STORM

The intelligence reports spread across Satoru's desk painted a clear picture: the New World was on the brink of something massive. Kaido and Big Mom, two of the Four Emperors, were finally moving toward direct confrontation.

Satoru leaned back in his chair, reading through the latest updates. "Looks like those two are really serious this time."

Claire stood at attention nearby, having just finished her briefing. "According to our observers, both Emperors have mobilized their main forces. The Three Disasters of the Beasts Pirates and the Sweet Commanders of the Big Mom Pirates are all in motion. Interestingly, they seem to be deliberately avoiding our patrol zones."

"They're not stupid." Satoru set down the papers. "They want this fight settled without outside interference. A third party showing up would complicate things."

Kroll, one of his more ambitious subordinates, stepped forward with barely contained excitement. "Sir, this could be our chance! If the two Emperors weaken each other, we could move in and finish off the survivors. Imagine the credit—wiping out two Emperor crews in one operation!"

Satoru turned to look at him.

Behind his blindfold, his expression was unreadable. But the way he simply stared at Kroll for a long, uncomfortable moment made the young Marine shift nervously.

"Sir? Did I... say something wrong?"

Satoru continued staring. Then, very deliberately, he spoke. "Kroll. I usually think of you as one of the smarter officers here. So I'm going to assume this is a temporary lapse in judgment rather than a permanent condition."

Kroll's face reddened. "I don't understand, sir—"

"Let me explain it simply." Satoru stood, moving to the window. "Even if Kaido and Big Mom somehow manage to mutually destroy each other—which they won't—their crews would still be intact. The Three Disasters. The Sweet Commanders. Thousands of veteran pirates. And you think you—" he glanced back, "—could just walk in and finish them off?"

Kroll opened his mouth, then closed it.

"Those crews are filled with monsters," Satoru continued. "Monsters that have survived in the New World for years. Even wounded, even exhausted, they would tear through this base like paper. The only reason we're safe is because I'm here. And even I would have difficulty handling both crews at once."

He turned back to the window. "Don't underestimate the Emperors, Kroll. That's how people die."

Kroll swallowed hard. "I... understand, sir. My apologies."

"Good. Now—" Satoru's voice shifted back to business, "—what's the latest?"

A messenger hurried in, slightly out of breath. "Sir! Front-line observers report that both Kaido and Big Mom have been sighted. They're heading toward Wheat Island. It looks like that's where the main battle will take place."

Satoru's eyes gleamed behind his blindfold. "Wheat Island. Interesting choice."

He turned to face his officers. "Alright, here's the plan. All hands prepare for deployment. We're moving toward Wheat Island—but we're not getting involved in the main event. Our target is the smaller pirate crews that will inevitably try to take advantage of the chaos. Pirates who think they can pick at the scraps of an Emperor battle."

He pointed at Claire. "You have command of the fleet. Move in standard formation, engage any pirate forces you encounter. If you run into something you can't handle—" he tapped his Den Den Mushi, "—call me."

"And you, sir?" Claire asked.

Satoru's smile widened. "I'm going ahead. There's no way I'm missing this fight."

In the space between heartbeats, Satoru crossed half the New World.

He materialized on the deck of a ship—not a Marine vessel, but a Beasts Pirates warship. The crew barely had time to register his presence before their instincts screamed danger.

Satoru looked around casually, taking in the familiar insignia. Hundred Beasts. Which means—

His eyes found the figure standing rigidly at the ship's center.

Ember.

The All-Star's face went through several expressions in rapid succession: shock, recognition, and finally a deep, visceral dread that he couldn't quite hide. His hand went to his sword, but he didn't draw. He knew—knew with absolute certainty—that drawing would accomplish nothing.

Around them, the crew raised weapons, shouting warnings. But none of them moved to attack. They had heard the stories. They knew what this white-haired boy had done to their commander.

"Yo." Satoru raised a hand in casual greeting. "Long time no see, Ember. You're looking... better than last time."

Ember's jaw tightened. "You. What are you doing here?"

"Can't a guy visit old friends?" Satoru's grin was infuriatingly cheerful. "I heard there was going to be a party. Figured I'd drop by."

"This is no party, Admiral." Ember's voice was low, dangerous. "This is business between Emperors. It doesn't concern the Marines."

"Oh, I know. I'm just here to watch." Satoru spread his hands. "Think of me as a neutral observer. I won't interfere."

The tension on the ship was palpable. Every pirate watched Satoru like he was a bomb that might go off at any second.

Around them, the rest of the fleet had noticed the commotion. Ships from both Emperor crews turned their attention to the Beasts vessel where the White Dragon stood casually among enemies.

On a Big Mom ship, Queen stared through a telescope, his multiple chins quivering. "Is that... is that the White Dragon? On Ember's ship?!"

Jack the Drought, on another vessel, growled low in his throat. "That's the one Kaido-sama warned us about. The one who hurt Ember."

On the Big Mom side, the Sweet Commanders gathered, their expressions wary.

Perospero's long tongue flicked nervously. "Why is an Admiral here? Has the Navy allied with Kaido?"

Charlotte Owen's hand went to his weapon. "If this is a trap—"

"Calm down." Katakuri's voice cut through their speculation like a blade. His Observation Haki was already probing, analyzing. "Look at Ember. Look at his stance. That's not an ally. That's an enemy."

They looked. Ember's posture was rigid, defensive, his hand on his weapon but not drawing. The white-haired Admiral stood completely relaxed, as if surrounded by enemies was his natural state.

"If that Admiral wanted to fight," Katakuri continued, "Ember would already be down. He's not here for battle. He's here to watch."

"Watch?" Perospero's voice rose. "Watch what?"

"The fight." Katakuri's eyes never left Satoru's distant figure. "He came to see Mother and Kaido battle. Nothing more."

The tension on the Big Mom ships didn't ease, but it shifted. From immediate combat readiness to wary observation.

On Ember's ship, the standoff continued.

"You're not welcome here, Navy." Ember's voice was barely controlled.

Satoru shrugged. "That's not very friendly. After everything we've been through together?"

"We haven't been through anything together."

"Sure we have. That fight we had? Very meaningful. Bonding, even."

Ember's eye twitched. Behind him, his crew exchanged looks of disbelief. Is he... joking? With Ember?

Before the situation could escalate further, a new presence made itself known.

Satoru didn't turn, but his smile widened. "Oh? Company."

Behind him, a figure had materialized on the ship's railing—tall, muscular, with a scarf covering most of his face and a mane of blond hair. Charlotte Katakuri, the strongest of the Sweet Commanders, had crossed the gap between fleets without a sound.

His eyes, cold and assessing, fixed on Satoru's back. "Admiral White Dragon."

Satoru finally turned, meeting Katakuri's gaze with his hidden one. "Katakuri, right? Big Mom's strongest son. I've heard about you."

"And I've heard about you." Katakuri's voice was flat, emotionless. "The Admiral who fought Kaido and lived. The one who defeated Ember. You've made quite a name for yourself."

"Just doing my job."

They studied each other for a long moment. Two people with abilities that gave them unique perspectives—Katakuri with his future sight, Satoru with his Six Eyes. Both reading layers of information that others couldn't perceive.

Finally, Katakuri spoke. "You're not here to fight."

"Observant." Satoru's grin returned. "No, I'm just here to watch. Kaido versus Big Mom—that's not something you see every day. I wouldn't miss it for the world."

"And if we decide we don't want an audience?"

Satoru's grin didn't waver, but something behind it sharpened. "Then I'd have to insist. Politely, of course."

The air between them thickened. Ember watched with barely concealed tension, his hand still on his sword. Around them, the crews of both fleets held their breath.

Then Katakuri did something unexpected.

He smiled.

It was small, barely a twitch of his covered lips, but it was there. "You're confident, Admiral. That's either admirable or foolish."

"Bit of both, probably."

Katakuri nodded slowly. "Fine. Watch if you want. But if you interfere—"

"I won't." Satoru's voice was suddenly serious. "This is between Emperors. The Navy has no interest in getting caught in the middle. I'm just a spectator."

Another long look. Then Katakuri turned and, with a flicker of his Devil Fruit powers, was gone, returning to his own ship.

Ember let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. "You should leave too, Admiral."

"In a bit." Satoru found a comfortable spot on the railing and sat down, completely at ease. "The main event hasn't started yet. I'll wait."

Ember stared at him for a long moment, then turned away, muttering something under his breath that might have been curses.

Around them, the two Emperor fleets continued their advance toward Wheat Island. And in their midst, completely uninvited and utterly unworried, sat the youngest Admiral in Marine history, waiting for the show to begin.
