Chapter 175 - CHAPTER 175

The silence on the top floor was no longer empty.

It was full.

Dense.

As if the air had turned into something heavy enough to touch, pressing down and watching over them.

The faceless figure stood in the middle of the room.

Not in a hurry.

Not unsteady.

As if the entire place had been created for it.

Richard Blackwood stepped forward one step.

Slowly.

Measured.

His eyes never left the figure.

"Whatever you think you are..." his voice was flat, "this is not your place."

The figure did not move.

But the air around it trembled slightly.

"Place... is determined by those who endure."

The words were not heard

but felt.

Entering their minds.

Echoing.

Leonard Graves let out a short breath.

"I don't like philosophy from something without a face."

He raised his weapon.

But did not shoot yet.

Waiting.

Assessing.

Daniel stood slightly behind, the device in his hand trembling.

The graphics on the screen were unstable.

Nonsensical.

" Its frequency keeps changing... it is adapting to the environment..."

Ethan

inside the broken network

felt the changes like endless waves.

"...it is not just adapting..."

Ethan's voice came through, intermittent,

"...it chooses the best form..."

The child stepped forward.

One step.

Then another.

No hesitation.

No fear.

"You are not just learning..."

he whispered softly.

"...you are evolving."

The figure turned slightly.

A gentle movement.

But clear.

"Evolution... is the purpose."

The silence was tense.

But this time

something was different.

The figure did not attack immediately.

It... spoke.

Understood.

And that

was more dangerous.

Leonard whispered softly,

"I preferred it when it just tried to kill us."

Richard did not look away.

"Focus."

Daniel swallowed.

"If it keeps learning from us..."

He did not finish.

But everyone understood.

It would become

more than them.

The figure raised its hand.

Slowly.

The air around them trembled.

But this time

it did not attack immediately.

It formed something.

The space in front of it curved.

Like glass pressed from the other side.

Then

a shadow appeared.

Not a distortion.

But a form.

Human.

But empty.

Faceless.

Expressionless.

But standing.

In a line.

One.

Two.

Three.

Leonard muttered softly.

"Now it is making an army?"

Ethan reacted immediately.

"...those are not copies..."

"...they are projections..."

Daniel frowned.

"What is the difference?!"

"...they have no core... but are real enough to attack..."

Richard raised his weapon immediately.

"If they are real enough..."

He pulled the trigger.

"...they are enough to destroy."

The first shot.

One of the figures was hit.

Cracked.

But did not disappear immediately.

They moved.

In unison.

Fast.

Faster than before.

Leonard started shooting immediately.

"Good. I am starting to like this again."

Daniel activated his device.

Frequency increased.

The air trembled.

Some of the projections wavered.

Not all.

The main figure remained standing.

Observing.

Learning.

The child stared directly at it.

"You will not stop..."

The figure replied,

"Stopping... is failure."

The silence lasted only a split second.

Because the battle had already begun.

Richard moved to the left.

Leonard to the right.

They split the formation.

Drawing the projections' attention.

Daniel stepped back.

Making space.

Guarding the child.

And the child

did not step back.

He stepped forward again.

Straight toward the main figure.

"Hey..!" Daniel tried to stop him.

But too late.

The child was already in the middle.

Among them all.

His gaze was steady.

"You want to learn from us..."

He stopped.

Took a breath.

"...then look at this."

The cables on his body moved wildly.

Stronger than before.

Faster.

Energy flowed out.

Not like before.

This was different.

Deeper.

More... directed.

Ethan felt it.

And was shocked.

"...he is opening the connection..."

Daniel panicked.

"What is he doing?!"

"...he is connecting himself directly to the core..."

The silence turned into full tension.

Richard looked over.

"Pull him back!"

Too late.

The child was already connected.

Light appeared between them.

Not bright.

Like two worlds touching.

The figure stopped.

It did not move.

It... responded.

"You... are part of this."

The child shook his head.

"I do not belong to you."

"But you are connected."

"And I can close it."

Silence for a moment.

A small burst of energy.

Not destructive.

This... was interference.

The projections around them wavered immediately.

Some broke apart.

Some disappeared.

Richard took advantage of the moment immediately.

Shooting them one by one.

Leonard covered the other side.

Daniel increased the frequency.

The main figure stepped back one step.

Only one.

And that

was progress.

The child staggered.

But remained standing.

"You are not perfect yet..."

he whispered.

"...and that is your weakness."

The figure was silent.

Its body trembled.

Stronger than before.

As if something inside it

was unstable.

Ethan felt it.

"...that is true..."

"...it is not fully stable yet..."

Daniel spoke immediately,

"Then we press now!"

Richard did not hesitate.

"Finish it before it completes its evolution."

Leonard grinned.

"Finally the clear part."

They moved together.

Coordinated attacks.

No space given.

No time given.

The figure tried to defend.

Reforming projections.

But did not have time.

The pressure was too great.

The child raised his hand.

Last energy.

Last connection.

And

pushed.

The figure trembled.

Cracks appeared on its surface.

Thin.

But real.

It... was damaged.

Silence hung in the air.

Did not last long.

Because the cracks

did not just spread.

They also... changed.

Strange light came out from within.

Not dark.

Not bright.

But something in between.

And the voice.

returned.

Deeper.

Wider.

"Adaptation... does not stop."

Everyone froze for a moment.

Because they realized.

this was not over.

This was new.

the start of a more perfect form.

And this time.

it did not just learn.

It started... to fight back.

The cracks on the figure's body did not break apart immediately.

Instead... they changed direction.

Not spreading uncontrollably.

Spreading in patterns.

As if something inside it was rearranging itself.

Faster.

More precise.

Daniel froze for a moment when he saw it.

"That... is not damage..."

Leonard Graves growled softly.

"No. That is an upgrade."

Richard Blackwood did not step back.

His gaze remained sharp.

"Do not give it time."

He stepped forward again.

this time

the figure did not stay still.

The cracks on its body glowed.

And in one movement

it disappeared.

Not gone completely.

But moving.

Too fast to see.

"Behind you!" Daniel shouted.

Leonard turned immediately.

Shot.

The bullet hit something

only the air trembled.

The figure reappeared

on the other side of the room.

Further away.

Safer.

The child staggered.

The connection that had been opened

felt like it was being pulled forcefully.

"You... are learning too fast..." he whispered.

The figure did not reply.

Its body was now more stable.

Clearer.

The faceless surface was no longer flat.

There were slight curves.

Like faint lines

starting to form an expression.

Not clear.

But enough to make skin crawl.

Ethan

inside the network

felt the surge.

"...it is repairing itself from damage..."

"...using data from our attacks..."

Daniel stared in horror.

"So every time we attack.."

Leonard cut in,

"..it gets stronger. Great."

The silence lasted only a moment.

Because the figure raised its hand again.

Not to attack directly.

The air around them

grew thick.

As if the space itself had become dense.

Daniel jolted.

"I cannot move..!"

Leonard tried to step forward.

His legs felt held in place.

"It is holding us in place..."

Richard forced one step forward.

Heavy.

But successful.

"We destroy the core."

The child shook his head.

"It is not that simple anymore..."

The figure spoke again.

Clearer.

Closer.

"You... are helping the process."

Daniel gritted his teeth.

"We are not helping anything!"

"Every interaction... is learning."

The silence felt like a blow.

Because they knew

it was true.

The child stared steadily.

"You will never be perfect."

The figure was silent for a moment.

Then.

"Perfection... is not the purpose."

The air around them grew heavier.

Pressure increased.

Daniel almost knelt.

Leonard held on with difficulty.

Richard

still standing.

And it was clear

this was starting to cross the line.

Ethan felt everything.

And he knew

they could not win this way.

"...we have to change the rules..." he whispered.

Daniel responded immediately,

"What do you mean?!"

"...do not fight it on its level..."

"...bring it down to our level..."

Daniel frowned.

"How?!"

Silence for a moment.

"...cut the environment connection..."

"...it is strong because of this place..."

Daniel understood immediately.

"This building... it is part of its network!"

Leonard raised an eyebrow.

"So we destroy the building?"

Richard replied without hesitation,

"If needed."

The child looked around.

The cables on his body moved again.

"It has already rooted here..."

He took a breath.

"...but not completely."

Daniel worked immediately.

His device active.

Looking for connection points.

Electrical panels.

Communication systems.

Anything that could be cut.

"There are several nodes on this floor..." he said quickly.

Leonard moved immediately.

Even if heavy.

Even if pressed down.

He still moved.

Shooting at the panels on the wall.

Sparks appeared.

Lights flickered.

The figure trembled slightly.

A small reaction.

But present.

Richard realized immediately.

"It is working."

He moved more aggressively.

Pressing forward.

Attacking.

Not to destroy

but to distract.

Buying time.

The child raised both hands.

His cables dug into the floor.

Disrupting connections.

Drawing energy out.

The figure trembled more strongly.

"Interference... detected..."

Daniel kept working.

"We have to cut all at once!"

Leonard destroyed another panel.

Small explosion sounds echoed.

Part of the floor went dark.

The figure stepped back slightly.

Not much.

But enough.

Richard moved closer.

Closer than before.

"Now."

Daniel nodded.

"All points now!"

The child closed his eyes.

Pulling all remaining connections.

And

released them.

All at once.

The lights in the room went out.

Completely.

Silence fell.

Heavy.

This was different.

The pressure

was gone.

Air returned to normal.

Daniel panted.

"That.."

Emergency lights turned on.

Dim.

But enough.

And in the middle of the room

the figure still stood.

Changed.

Smaller.

Denser.

More... real.

But also

more limited.

It no longer controlled the room.

No longer merged with the place.

It stood

as one entity.

Alone.

Richard raised his weapon.

His gaze cold.

"Now we talk as equals."

Leonard grinned.

"Finally."

The child opened his eyes.

His breath was heavy.

But there was one clear thing on his face.

A small hope.

"We can hurt it now..."

The figure was silent.

Did not move.

But its body

was no longer perfect.

The cracks were still there.

And this time

it did not repair itself as fast as before.

Ethan whispered softly,

"...this is our chance..."

The silence changed.

No longer fear.

But... determination.

They no longer defended.

They started...

fighting back properly.

And the figure

was not completely superior.
