Chapter 176 - CHAPTER 176

Emergency lights flickered dimly.

Their shadows stretched long across the cracked marble floor, creating silhouettes that looked alien as if they no longer belonged to ordinary humans. The air that had pressed down before now felt empty, light, but full of unresolved tension.

The faceless figure stood in the center.

Smaller.

Denser.

More real.

It looked… limited.

Richard Blackwood did not wait.

He stepped forward.

One step.

Two steps.

His weapon remained raised.

His gaze was locked on the center of the creature's body.

"Now," he said quietly, "there is no place for you to hide."

The figure did not respond.

But its body trembled.

Fine cracks across its surface pulsed.

Like something inside it

was unstable.

Leonard Graves moved to the right side.

His stance was low.

Ready to shoot at any moment.

"I like this condition. More honest."

Daniel adjusted his device.

Frequencies were tuned.

The graphics began to stabilize.

"He is no longer fully connected to the environment… we really did cut him off."

The child stood slightly ahead of Daniel.

His body was still weak.

But his eyes

were sharp.

Focused.

"We have to be quick…" he whispered.

"…he will try to reconnect."

A moment of silence.

But it was enough.

Richard moved immediately.

First shot.

The bullet hit exactly at the center of the creature's body.

This time

it did not bounce off.

It did not just create ripples.

But

a crack.

Real.

Deeper than before.

The figure jolted.

Its body trembled.

"Interference… increasing…"

Leonard did not wait.

Two quick shots.

Aimed at the already cracked side.

Sparks appeared.

That part broke slightly.

Small fragments fell

then disappeared.

Daniel watched.

"It worked!"

The child nodded.

"He cannot hold everything together anymore…"

But the creature did not stay still.

It moved.

Fast.

Not as fast as before

But fast enough to surprise.

It appeared in front of Leonard.

A hand or something resembling one was raised.

Leonard stepped back immediately.

The attack almost hit him.

The air beside him split open.

The floor cracked.

Richard was already moving.

Shooting from the side.

The bullet hit the creature's head and something changed.

The smooth surface shifted.

As if trying to form something.

An expression.

A face.

But it was not finished.

Not perfect.

"Structure… unstable…"

Its voice sounded heavier.

Rougher.

Like it was losing control.

Ethan inside the network

felt that moment.

"…there it is…"

"…his weak point…"

Daniel asked immediately.

"Where?!"

"…at the center of his consciousness…"

"…he is trying to maintain form…"

Daniel understood.

"So if we keep disrupting him…"

Leonard finished his sentence.

"…he will collapse."

Richard said nothing.

But his movements already answered.

He advanced again.

Closer.

Bolder.

A series of shots were fired.

Aimed at the center of the body.

Not giving time.

Not giving space.

The creature tried to hold on.

With each attack

the cracks grew larger.

The child stepped forward.

Even though his body trembled.

"You cannot hold everything together…"

The figure turned.

Slowly.

"I… can… evolve…"

"Not fast enough."

The child raised his hand.

The cables on his body glowed.

Brighter than before.

His last energy.

He did not attack.

But… pressed down.

Straight to the core.

The creature jolted.

Harder.

Its body almost lost form.

Richard saw the opportunity.

He paused for a moment.

Took a breath.

Locked onto the target.

Leonard stopped shooting.

Making space.

Daniel held the frequency steady.

Stabilizing the interference.

One second.

Two seconds.

Time felt slow.

And then

Richard pulled the trigger.

One shot.

And this time

it was perfect.

The bullet pierced straight into the center of the crack.

Went in.

Deep.

And

stayed still.

For a moment.

Total silence.

The creature did not move.

Did not make a sound.

But its body.

Trembled violently.

Cracks spread across the entire surface.

Fast.

Uncontrolled.

"Mistake… cannot… be corrected…"

The voice broke apart.

Cut off.

Like a system that had failed.

The child fell to his knees.

His energy was spent.

Daniel caught him immediately.

Leonard stepped back one step.

"This is it…"

Richard did not move.

His eyes remained on the target.

Not believing until it was truly over.

And then

it collapsed.

Not exploding.

Not shattering violently.

But breaking apart slowly.

Like a structure that had lost meaning.

Fragment by fragment fell.

Disappearing before touching the floor.

Until nothing was left.

Silence returned.

But this time

it was different.

More… light.

Daniel panted.

"We… did it…"

Leonard took a long breath.

"I will say yes. For now."

Richard lowered his weapon.

But he was not completely relaxed.

His gaze remained sharp.

Because he knew

something like this

would not disappear easily.

The child was still on his knees.

His breathing was weak.

But his eyes were open.

Staring ahead.

Empty.

"He… is gone…"

he whispered.

Ethan inside the network

felt something strange.

The connection

was broken.

But not completely.

"…not all of him…"

Daniel turned immediately.

"What?!"

"…some parts remain…"

"…small fragments…"

Silence fell again.

Softer.

But deeper.

Leonard sighed.

"Of course it is not over."

Richard looked toward the window.

The city outside

was still lit.

Still alive.

But now

quieter.

"This is not the end," he said quietly.

Daniel nodded.

"But we stopped the core."

The child stood slowly.

Still weak.

But something had changed.

He no longer looked afraid.

"He is no longer one…"

he whispered.

"…but still everywhere."

The silence no longer pressed down.

But it reminded them.

That what they faced

had changed form.

And perhaps

would never truly disappear.

Richard turned around.

"Then we move forward."

Leonard smiled slightly.

"Yes. Hunting pieces."

Daniel helped the child walk.

"We will not let him return."

Outside

the night wind blew.

The city stood firm.

But something inside it

had changed.

And deep in the shadows

the small fragments moved.

Invisible.

Inaudible.

But still there.

Waiting.

Learning.

And one day

perhaps

returning.

Their steps did not immediately leave the top floor.

The remaining silence felt too… neat.

As if something had deliberately stopped

rather than truly ended.

Richard stood by the large window.

Staring at the city below.

Lights still blinked.

But no longer wild like before.

More… stable.

And that

made him even more alert.

Leonard walked slowly around the room.

His boots scraped against small pieces of marble.

"I do not like the atmosphere after victories like this," he murmured.

Daniel still held his device.

The graphics on the screen slowly declined.

Not zero.

Never zero.

"There is still activity…"

He swallowed.

"…and it is spreading."

The child stood in the middle of the room.

Where the figure had collapsed.

His eyes stared at the floor.

But not really seeing.

He felt it.

The cables on his body moved slowly.

Calmer.

But still alive.

"He… is no longer centralized…"

he whispered.

Richard turned around.

"How many?"

The child did not answer immediately.

But his face changed.

A little.

Enough to explain everything.

"…many."

Silence fell again.

But this time

it did not press down.

More like…

a warning.

Leonard took a long breath.

"So we really just cut off the head… and now the body is moving on its own."

Daniel nodded slightly.

"Without a core… he is harder to track."

Richard looked back at the city.

"But also weaker."

Leonard grinned slightly.

"Yes, if we can find all of them."

The child raised his head.

His gaze was now more focused.

More aware.

"Not all…"

They turned around.

"What do you mean?"

The child took one step.

"Some… are stronger than others."

Daniel understood immediately.

"Dominant fragments…"

Leonard raised an eyebrow.

"Mini boss versions?"

No one laughed.

Because it made sense.

And was dangerous.

Ethan

inside the network

felt the difference.

"…correct…"

"…some parts… hold more of him…"

"…they can evolve again…"

Daniel gritted his teeth.

"If we let them…"

Richard finished his sentence.

"They will become new cores."

A moment of silence.

This time

the direction was clear.

Leonard patted his weapon.

"Alright. So we have a new target list."

Daniel lifted his device.

"I can track the highest energy concentrations."

The child closed his eyes for a moment.

Then opened them again.

"I can feel which ones… are closest."

Richard nodded.

"Combine them."

They began to move again.

But before that

something happened.

The large screen on the wall

which had been off

suddenly turned on.

Everyone turned immediately.

There was no main power.

But the screen

was active.

Black.

Then

a small dot appeared.

Blinking.

Daniel tensed.

"That…"

The dot moved.

Slowly.

Drawing a line.

As if sketching something.

Leonard raised his weapon.

"If this is a message, I do not like the writer's style."

The line continued to move.

Forming a pattern.

Not random.

But… directed.

The child stared intensely.

His eyes widened slightly.

"He…"

he whispered.

"…can still speak."

The silence shifted sharply.

Daniel stared at the screen.

"How is that possible? We already…"

Ethan interrupted.

"…that is not the one from before…"

"…this is another part…"

"…one that learned faster…"

The line finally finished.

Forming something simple.

It was clear.

A symbol.

Unknown.

Felt… meaningful.

Leonard frowned.

"What does it mean?"

The child stepped closer.

His hand was slightly raised.

As if wanting to touch the screen.

"This… is not a threat…"

he whispered.

"…it is a sign."

Richard narrowed his eyes.

"What kind of sign?"

The child stared at the symbol longer.

Then

took a slow breath.

"He chose…"

Daniel froze.

"Chose what?"

The child turned slowly.

His gaze was different now.

Deeper.

Heavier.

"…the next place."

The silence did not break.

Because everyone understood immediately.

This was not the end.

Not even a pause.

This was

a transition.

Leonard took a long breath.

"Good. So we have an invitation."

Richard stared at the symbol one more time.

Memorized it.

Stored it away.

"We move now."

Daniel nodded.

The device in his hand began to reprocess data.

Looking for matches.

Looking for direction.

The child stepped away from the screen.

Before leaving completely

he stopped.

Turned around one more time.

Stared at the symbol.

And for a moment

something inside him… responded.

Faint.

But real.

Like a small part of him—

recognized it.

And somewhere else

far from the building

in an unseen corner of the city

another screen turned on.

The same symbol appeared.

Blinking.

Slowly.

And in front of it

a shadow stood.

Not as large as before.

Not perfect.

But enough.

To start again.

The game was not over.

It had just…

moved boards.
