Chapter 177 - CHAPTER 177

The screen light did not go out.

The symbol that had formed remained lit, still, as if waiting to be understood. Its reflection fell on the cracked marble floor, creating strange shadows that seemed alive if stared at for too long.

Richard Blackwood stood closest.

His gaze did not shift.

He memorized its shape.

Every line.

Every angle.

"Direction," he said simply.

Daniel reacted immediately.

The device in his hand lit up brighter.

His fingers moved quickly, trying to match the pattern to the city map.

"This isn't regular coordinates... but wait..."

The graphics on the screen changed.

Several points flickered.

Then one of them

lit up brighter.

"Found it."

Leonard Graves grinned faintly.

"Of course he left a clue. Too confident, isn't he?"

The child did not join in the joke.

His eyes were still fixed on the symbol.

"We aren't invited..."

he whispered softly.

"...we're being lured."

Silence fell.

But no one stepped back.

Richard turned around.

"Location."

Daniel held up his device.

"Old District. A long inactive industrial area."

Leonard sighed.

"Every troublemaker's favorite spot."

Richard immediately moved toward the stairs.

"We're leaving."

The descent felt faster.

Not because their steps were light

but because the decision had been made.

No more doubt.

No more room for long plans.

This was no longer about surviving.

But chasing.

When they exited the building

the night air greeted them with tangible cold.

The city around them looked normal.

after what had happened

nothing truly looked the same.

Their vehicle was still there.

Damaged.

But usable.

Leonard climbed into the front seat immediately.

"I hope the engine didn't decide to evolve on its own too."

Daniel helped the child into the back seat.

Richard started the engine.

Rough sound.

But alive.

And they

moved forward again.

The road to the Old District was darker.

Streetlights were fewer and farther between.

The buildings began to change.

From shops and apartments

to old warehouses and factories.

Some buildings looked empty.

Some... too quiet.

Daniel stared at his device.

"The signal is getting stronger..."

The child looked out the window.

His breath was heavier.

"He's waiting..."

Leonard glanced back.

"Yeah, that's become his habit."

But his voice was not casual.

Because this time

they were the ones coming.

Not being attacked.

And that

was more dangerous.

They stopped in front of a complex of old factories.

The iron gate was half open.

Not broken.

But as if... left that way.

Richard turned off the engine.

Silence enveloped them immediately.

No other engine sounds.

No wind.

Nothing at all.

"This place..." Daniel murmured.

"...is too empty."

Leonard opened the door.

"Good. Fewer places for things to hide."

Richard got out without a word.

His steps led straight into the complex.

The child got out slowly.

This time

not unsteady.

He stood straighter.

As if the closer they got

the stronger he became.

"We're almost there..." he whispered.

Inside the complex

the main building stood in the center.

Larger than the others.

Its front door was open.

Dark inside.

But something was felt.

Not like before.

More... focused.

Richard stopped a few meters from the door.

Staring inside.

Leonard stood on the right.

Daniel on the left.

The child in the middle.

An unplanned formation.

But perfect.

"Ready?" Leonard asked.

Richard did not answer.

He stepped inside.

The room within was spacious.

Rusty old machines.

Large pipes stretched across the ceiling.

All of that

did not matter.

Because in the center of the room

there was something.

Not a large figure.

Not a shadow.

But a

point.

Small.

Floating.

Glowing dimly.

Like a tiny core.

But dense.

Very dense.

Daniel felt it immediately.

"That... is different..."

The child stepped forward.

His gaze was locked on it.

"This is one of the strong ones..."

Leonard raised his weapon.

"So we destroy it before it grows big again."

But before they could move

the point changed.

It widened.

Formed lines.

Then a

shape.

Not as large as before.

But more stable.

Formed faster.

And this time

the face...

was almost there.

Not perfect.

But clear enough

it was learning.

"You came faster than expected."

The voice emerged.

Softer.

More... human.

Daniel tensed up.

"It has evolved..."

Ethan felt the connection.

Smaller.

Sharper.

"...this isn't a remnant..."

"...this is a branch..."

The child stared straight ahead.

"You chose this place..."

The figure nodded slightly.

A gentle movement.

"A quiet place... easier to grow."

Leonard grinned.

"Too bad we showed up."

The figure was not offended.

Not angry.

But

smiled.

Not with its face.

But with... its aura.

"You... are part of the process."

Richard raised his weapon.

"No longer."

The first shot was fired.

A new battle

began.

And this time

their enemy

was no longer foreign.

It was starting to become something

that could understand them.

And that

made it far more dangerous.

The first bullet from Richard Blackwood cut through the heavy air.

Hitting the center of the shape.

This time

the reaction was different.

No wild cracks.

No major distortions.

Only small ripples.

Directed.

Controlled.

As if the creature already knew

how to receive attacks.

Daniel realized it immediately.

"He... is anticipating!"

Leonard Graves did not wait.

A burst of shots was fired.

Sweeping the left side.

The right side.

Looking for gaps.

But every bullet

was met with the same pattern.

Ripple.

Dampened.

Adapted.

Leonard cursed.

"He's really learning."

The child stepped forward.

His eyes did not leave the figure.

"You've accelerated your process..."

The figure answered calmly.

"Interaction... increases efficiency."

Daniel ground his teeth.

"So we're just practice material for him?"

Ethan

inside the network

felt something different.

"...not just that..."

"...he's storing the results..."

"...every branch... more prepared than the last..."

The silence was piercing.

Because the meaning was clear

every next encounter would be harder.

Richard did not stop.

He changed his angle.

Attacking from the other side.

Mixing up the pattern.

But the creature

kept up.

Not perfectly.

But enough.

Its attacks began to emerge.

Faster.

More precise.

It raised its hand

and this time

there were no major distortions.

Only a push.

But strong enough.

Richard was pushed back a step.

Leonard immediately shot toward the hand.

To interfere.

The creature stepped back slightly.

Keeping its distance.

Not aggressive.

Not in a hurry.

As if... assessing.

Daniel stared in horror.

"He doesn't just attack randomly anymore..."

The child nodded slowly.

"He chooses when to attack..."

The silence lasted only a moment.

Because the situation shifted.

The creature stepped forward.

One step.

And its effect

was felt throughout the room.

The air trembled.

The old machines around them

hummed softly.

As if responding too.

Daniel realized it immediately.

"He's starting to connect to the environment again!"

Leonard sighed.

"So we're doing this all over?"

Richard answered simply.

"No."

He looked around.

Calculating.

Assessing.

"This time we won't give him time to build up."

He moved forward.

Faster.

More aggressive.

Leonard followed.

Pressuring from a different side.

Daniel increased the frequency.

Interfering with every connection attempt.

The child

stepped straight forward.

Closer than before.

"You won't finish..."

he whispered.

The creature looked at him.

Longer.

"I've already started."

"And we will stop you."

The creature attacked the child immediately.

Fast.

Without pause.

Daniel shouted.

"Careful!"

But the child did not step back.

He raised his hand.

The cables on his body lit up.

Holding on.

The collision happened.

Not physical.

But felt.

Like two currents crashing together.

The child was pushed back.

But did not fall.

The creature stopped too.

For a moment.

Richard immediately seized the moment.

Shooting at its center.

This time

the reaction was different.

Small cracks appeared.

Thin.

But real.

Leonard grinned.

"There we go."

He shot at the same spot.

The crack widened slightly.

The creature stepped back.

Farther than before.

As if... careful.

Daniel saw the pattern.

"He's avoiding repeated damage..."

Ethan added.

"...that's a new instinct..."

"...survive first..."

The silence shifted to focus.

Richard said simply.

"We pin him there."

Leonard nodded.

"Press one point."

Daniel adjusted the frequency.

Locking down the area.

Reducing movement space.

The child took a deep breath.

His remaining energy gathered.

"This time... we don't give him a choice..."

They moved together.

Targeted attacks.

Not spread out.

Not random.

All aimed at one point.

The center.

The creature tried to move.

But its space was limited.

Every step

pushed back.

Every movement

interfered with.

Cracks began to appear again.

More of them.

Faster.

The creature did not collapse.

It changed.

Once more.

Its shape shrank slightly.

Denser.

More focused.

"Adaptation... top priority."

Daniel froze.

"He's sacrificing size for stability..."

Leonard sighed.

"And that makes him harder to destroy."

Richard remained calm.

But his eyes were sharper.

"Everything has limits."

He raised his weapon again.

Locking on the target.

The child whispered softly.

"This time... we push until the limit breaks..."

The creature did not step back anymore.

Did not avoid.

It stood its ground.

Holding on.

Facing them.

It chose to endure.

And that

changed this battle.

No longer a chase.

But a direct clash.

Whoever reached their limit first

would collapse.

And in that old room.

two different sides.

stood pressing against each other.

Not stepping back.

Not giving up.

Until one of them.

could hold on no longer.
