But after an unknown amount of time, Joey doesn't wake up. Still in slumber on Inv's back.
Turning his head around, Inv looks at Joey with worry. If he doesn't wake up soon…
Slowly, Inv retracts some of his fur from Joey. Before, the hair was completely covering Joey to the point you could only see his head.
Removing the hair from Joey's injured arm. Inv sees the red cloth loosely hanging from Joey's arm. Gently taking off the red cloth from Joey's arm…
Inv can only let out a whimper when he sees the state Joey's arm is in.
Amongst the burn marks and wounds. Inv can also see the arm starting to swell into a deep red.
Inv might not know much about injuries since most of his are healed over time.
But seeing Joey's arm not in its usual pretty pink, Inv can tell this isn't good.
But what can he do in a situation like this? Inv can tell Joey isn't like him. For some reason Joey's injuries don't start healing right away like Inv's does.

Trying to think of anything, Inv remembers something he always does when he wants an injury to heal faster.
Something that comes to him almost like an instinct, something he doesn't need to think to do.

When he licks his wounds… they always heal faster…

But would that work for Joey? What if it just made it worse?
Internally fighting with himself in his mind, Inv looks at Joey's arm that only seems to get redder with every passing moment.

Finally, he decides to go through with it. He can only hope this will help and not make things worse.
Moving his head closer to Joey's arm, Inv tries to calm down his rapidly beating hearts.
Inv has slowly been getting used to the physical contact from Joey but licking him was taking things to another level!
'Focus Inv! This is to make Joey feel better!'
Trying to get his mind in the right place, Inv starts sticking his tongue out.

If one were to see the scene right now, they would only be able to watch in horror.
A small pink slugcat laying on top of a big crudely copied version of a slugcat that's skin is physically moving.
The pink slugcat being wrapped up in the hair of the big slugcats fur. With the big slugcat somehow twisting its head completely 180 degrees while its body was still laying down on its stomach.
Its head slowly moving towards the small defenseless slugcats arm, starting to stick out a tongue that is almost the length of the arm.
If anyone saw this, they would run for their lives. Thinking the pink slugcat on its back was already a goner.

Fully sticking his tongue out, Inv hesitates for a moment. His tongue hovering over Joey's arm.

With one last push of determination Inv starts licking Joey's arm.
Tasting Joey's arm through his tongue, Inv can't help but feel conflicted. Should he be feeling like this right now?
He knows he's doing this to try to help Joey but… why is he starting to like this?
Getting more comfortable, Inv starts fully wrapping his tongue around Joey's arm. Enjoying the taste.
Amongst the wounds he can feel on Joey's arm… he can also taste him…
His partner.
Inv has tasted many things in his life. Many kinds of food. But this was different. Instead of a taste for food…
Inv can tell this is different. A taste for something else…
Starting to drown in what he tastes, Inv keeps licking Joey's arm. Wanting to taste this forever.
Inv couldn't understand why… feeling his hearts rapidly beating, Inv looks at Joey's head out of the corner of his eye.

'Oh… that's why it tastes so good…'
Coming to a realization, Inv realizes that it's not Joey's arm that tastes good.

It's the fact that Joey is his partner. He likes the act of wrapping his tongue around Joey's arm. The act of physically being able to lick his partner.

Over time, Inv keeps licking Joey's arm without pause. Not caring how much time has passed.
Not paying attention to the arm and only drowning in the pleasure in the act of licking.
If Inv were to look at the state of the arm at this moment, he would be slightly happy right now.
From its deep red swollen state, Joey's arm has significantly cooled down to a pinker state with less swelling. Showing that Inv's plan of licking Joey's arm was a success.

After an unknown amount of time Inv is thrown out of his stupor when he notices something.
Stopping his act of licking, Inv looks down at Joey's fur.
'O-oh no!'
Seeing his partners bright pink fur start to turn into a dullish Pink. Inv can tell his partner is starting to starve!
Unwrapping his tongue, Inv doesn't even notice that Joey's arm is now almost healed.
Not sure on what to do. The thought of trying to shake Joey to wake him up crosses his mind. But it's quickly put down. He doesn't want to hurt Joey while he's in a starved state.
Looking at the spear next to him with the pierced dead batflys, Inv tries to think of a way to feed Joey without waking him up…

To eat… doesn't he just need to get it down his throat? That's how Inv eats... so it should be the same for Joey, right?

Moving one of his paws. It bends in an unnatural way to Joey's mouth. Using the slightest bit of pressure making sure not to hurt his partner. Inv is able to open Joey's mouth.

Seeing the inside of his partner's small mouth, Inv can feel his hearts beating the fastest they've ever gone.

Staring at Joey's tiny teeth and tongue for a bit Inv can't help but feel extremely flustered. The idea of connecting his mouth with his partners...
Why does he feel so… weird?
Inv himself can't understand why he's feeling the way he is.
Trying to properly think of a way to feed Joey the batflys amongst the weird feelings.
He comes up with a solution.
Using his other paw, Inv takes off one of the batflys from the spear and puts it in his mouth.
Slowly chewing the batfly, Inv opens up Joey's mouth just a bit more.

The idea is to push the food into Joey's mouth and down Joey's throat with his tongue…

Slowly approaching Joey's mouth, Inv is about to enact his plan until he feels a small tremor from Joey.
Stopping himself, Inv pulls back his face to see that his partner's eyes are starting too slowly open!
He's awake! Joey's awake!
Feeling extremely happy by his partner waking up, Inv completely forgets about what he was about to do.
"Roey! Yawr ewak!" Inv says, his speech muffled by the chewed up batfly in his mouth.
With his partner awake, Inv feels a slight worry with wasting one of the batflys by chewing it up…
Before Inv can think of a way to not waste the food he sees Joey wide eyed at him.
Feeling a slight tremor against the fur on his back. Inv lets it loose letting Joey free himself.
"Inv…" Joey says in a deep raspy voice.

"Stay still"
Hearing Joey say this; he remains still as his partner slowly puts his paws on the sides of Inv's head.
Then, without any warning.
Joey moves his face towards Invs.
