Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Mu Nianbing — Call Me Husband

"How dare you hit me?! My eldest brother works for the Military Control Commission! He can easily deal with you!"

Lu Zhenghe glared at Mu Nianbing, who was approaching him step by step, his tone filled with panic and bluster.

At those words, Mu Nianbing's expression turned even colder.

"Military Control Commission, huh?" He let out a low sneer and kicked Lu Zhenghe several times with ruthless precision.

Although mages generally lacked physical strength, Mu Nianbing was a high-level mage, and when he struck with full force, even his kicks could shatter bones.

The sound of cracking bones echoed in the air, followed by Lu Zhenghe's miserable screams.

"Are you insane?!" Lu Yiming, standing nearby, was startled by Mu Nianbing's sudden ferocity.

If this continued, Lu Zhenghe might end up bedridden for weeks!

"Eyes of the Rock Demon!"

Lu Yiming's pupils turned dark brown as he released a petrification wave straight toward Mu Nianbing.

Right now, he didn't have time to think—he just needed to save Lu Zhenghe.

"Mysterious Ice Mirror!"

Without even looking back, Mu Nianbing raised his hand, and a wall of shimmering frost appeared, effortlessly blocking the petrifying force.

Lu Yiming's face darkened. That level of elemental control... there was no way Mu Nianbing had just entered the high level.

Mu Nianbing turned away from the unconscious Lu Zhenghe and set his gaze on Lu Yiming.

"What now, Teacher Lu? You want to spar with me too?"

A chilling aura radiated from him, and Lu Yiming instinctively trembled.

"Ahem… Mr. Mu, this must be some sort of misunderstanding."

A stiff smile spread across Lu Yiming's face. It had been years since he'd fought anyone seriously. If he ended up like Lu Zhenghe, it would be humiliating.

And as for revenge—well, Lu Zhenghe brought this upon himself. The fool thought his family background gave him the right to harass people.

He bullied others daily under the name of his brother's authority and even had the nerve to provoke a high-level mage. What was he thinking?

"There's no misunderstanding," Mu Nianbing replied calmly. "He provoked me, so I taught him a lesson. Simple as that."

Lu Yiming's lips twitched. This young man was truly fearless.

Still, someone that young and powerful likely had a strong backing. It would be wiser to smooth things over and let the dean handle it.

"Since Lu Zhenghe was the one who started it, you were within reason to defend yourself," Lu Yiming said with a forced chuckle.

"However, he's still a student of Imperial Capital Academy. I'll have to report this to the dean."

He cleverly pushed the troublesome matter up the chain.

Mu Nianbing merely shrugged and walked back toward the Mingzhu Academy team.

Because Lu Zhenghe was seriously injured, the second match was canceled.

In the end, Mingzhu Academy defeated Imperial Capital Academy with one decisive win.

"Brother Bing, that was amazing! You completely shut down the Imperial Capital team! Did you see their faces? They looked like they just swallowed a fly!"

Zhao Manyan exclaimed in admiration. After this, he was completely convinced of Mu Nianbing's strength.

Among those under twenty-five, no one in Imperial Capital Academy could compare to him!

Mo Fan, Xu Zhaoting, and the others nodded in agreement. The victory felt satisfying—better than any official competition result.

"People who rely on their background and bully others deserve to be beaten," Mu Nianbing said coolly.

Professor Qiu Yuhua stood by helplessly. This was his first time leading a team, and they had already stirred up a huge mess.

If a teacher seriously injured a student, it would normally be a major violation.

But since Mu Nianbing was only acting as an instructor, technically, this counted as a student brawl.

When viewed that way… it wasn't such a big problem after all.

The exchange event was over, and the next phase was supposed to be training.

However, because of the incident with Lu Zhenghe, it would likely be delayed for a few days.

Later, after everyone had left, Mu Nianbing returned to the arena. As expected, Mu Ningxue was still there, waiting quietly under the parasol.

She gazed at him for a long moment before finally asking, disbelief in her voice, "You've reached the high level?"

"Why? Can't accept that I've surpassed you already?"

Mu Nianbing smiled faintly, pulling her slender waist close and breathing in the faint, icy fragrance that surrounded her.

Mu Ningxue didn't resist. Instead, she leaned against him, her cheeks slightly flushed. With no one else around, there was no need to hide their closeness.

"I… I don't even know that man well," she said softly, hesitating for a moment.

Mu Nianbing had acted the moment he heard Lu Zhenghe's disrespect, and although she felt touched, she didn't want him to misunderstand.

If Lu Zhenghe knew she referred to him as "that man," he would probably faint all over again.

"Of course I know," Mu Nianbing replied lightly. "I just didn't like the way he looked at you."

His hand gently brushed her waist—it was soft and delicate to the touch.

Mu Ningxue's heart settled, and she rested her head on his chest, comforted by his steady warmth.

"By the way, Xue'er," Mu Nianbing said suddenly, "you don't have to worry about your family anymore. I already gave Uncle Yun fifty million as your bride price yesterday."

Mu Ningxue blinked in surprise. "Bride price…?"

Her pale face turned a shade of pink, the blush spreading down her neck, making her look even more breathtaking.

Seeing her cold beauty melt into gentle shyness, Mu Nianbing couldn't help but lean forward and steal a kiss.

When they finally parted, Mu Ningxue could barely catch her breath, her gaze lowered in shy confusion.

"Cousin…" she whispered softly.

"Don't call me that," Mu Nianbing murmured with a faint smile. "Call me husband."

Mu Ningxue's eyes widened, and after a brief moment of hesitation, her voice came out barely above a whisper.

"…Husband."

Hearing that single word, Mu Nianbing felt warmth surge through him.

Before he could say anything more, Mu Ningxue shyly turned and ran off, her silver hair fluttering like snow in the wind.

Meanwhile, in the Dean's Office, Lu Yiming reported the incident to Dean Songhe without embellishment.

It was true—Mu Nianbing had seriously injured Lu Zhenghe. But given the circumstances, exaggerating would do no good.

Dean Songhe, a shrewd old fox, didn't rush to discipline Mu Nianbing. Instead, he discreetly contacted several deans from Mingzhu Academy.

To his surprise, two of them actually supported Mu Nianbing.

That made the situation… tricky.

Even more so when he learned that Mu Nianbing wasn't truly a teacher, but a student of the main campus—and a twenty-one-year-old high-level mage at that.

In the past decade, only Qin Yuer could rival that level of talent.

After careful thought, Dean Songhe decided that before taking any action, he should speak with Mu Nianbing personally.
