Two days after the exchange competition ended, Dean Songhe personally called for Mu Nianbing to resolve the incident.
In the end, the punishment was simple: Mu Nianbing only needed to pay a small medical fee, and the matter would be closed.
After all, the trouble had been caused by Lu Zhenghe himself.
Considering that Mu Nianbing also had the support of two deans, Dean Songhe had no choice but to give him lenient treatment.
Mu Nianbing didn't object. Two hundred thousand yuan was hardly worth arguing over.
Even if I gave him the money, he won't get the chance to spend it, he thought coldly.
A few days later, once Lu Zhenghe's injuries had nearly healed, the long-awaited field training began.
Mu Nianbing did not stay behind at the Imperial Capital Academy—he chose to follow the team personally.
If something unexpected happened, he wanted to be there to handle it immediately.
Besides, he had his own reasons for joining. Hunting demons, collecting spirit essences, and earning money were all part of his plan.
Now that the Mu Family relied entirely on him, he needed every bit of strength and income he could gather.
Their destination this time was Dongting Lake, known as the third most dangerous lake in China, home to countless powerful demon tribes.
With his current cultivation, Mu Nianbing could already contend with commander-level demons.
And if a truly dangerous situation arose, Lei Yi, his personal guardian, would step in.
As night fell, a group of male students gathered around a campfire.
"Are the girls all bathing in the stream right now?" one whispered.
"Yeah," another grinned. "Mu Nujiao and Mu Ningxue are there too…"
Before their minds could wander any further, Xu Zhaoting snapped, "Are you all crazy? Or do you want to end up like Lu Zhenghe?"
A shiver ran through the group.
Lu Zhenghe had nearly lost his life just for saying the wrong thing. If they dared try anything worse, they might not survive.
"I think I'll just stay right here and warm myself by the fire," Mo Fan muttered, immediately abandoning his earlier thoughts.
If Mu Nianbing found out, he'd probably freeze him into an ice statue.
At the edge of the group, Lu Zhenghe's expression was dark and twisted. A hint of hatred glinted in his eyes.
Once I leave my marks along the way, my brother will come. And when he does, Mu Nianbing will die.
So what if that guy was a high-level mage? He'd never stand a chance against his elder brother!
"Hey, is Mu Nianbing really a student of Mingzhu Academy?" Xu Dalong finally asked.
That young man's strength was terrifying.
"It's true," replied Zheng Bingxiao with admiration. "Senior Mu is only one year older than us, yet he's already reached the high level."
He had almost said Teacher Mu, but quickly corrected himself now that Mu Nianbing's true status had been revealed.
As a Summoning student, Zheng Bingxiao had long heard the stories — that Mu Nianbing had obtained a commander-level contracted beast right after entering Mingzhu Academy, when he was still only at his second cultivation level.
A dual-element practitioner that far ahead of his peers — no wonder people called him a monster.
"Only one year older?" Xu Dalong and the others from Imperial Capital Academy were stunned.
They had thought Mu Nianbing was at least several years older. To learn that he was only twenty-one was almost unbelievable.
Even Lu Zhenghe's expression faltered. For the first time, he felt a pang of regret.
Was this truly someone he could afford to provoke?
No, he thought bitterly. Big brother must eliminate him before he breaks through to the super level… otherwise, we'll both be finished.
A few days later…
"Yes—another commander-level spirit essence!"
Mu Nianbing knelt beside the frozen corpse of a giant lizard, carefully extracting the shimmering spirit essence from its chest.
This was the third commander-level spirit essence he had harvested so far.
All around him, the ground was sealed in a thick layer of frost. Dozens of Lizard Skull Demons had been frozen solid, turned into lifeless sculptures.
When it came to large-scale attacks, the Ice Element was truly unmatched.
"It's a pity we can't go any deeper," he murmured, shaking his head. "Otherwise, Lei Yi would have killed them all by now."
Even with Lei Yi guarding him, Mu Nianbing didn't dare venture too far into the Dongting Lake Plain.
There were demons above the Monarch level lurking deeper inside.
Facing a sub-monarch or even a normal monarch was possible… but encountering a Great Monarch could mean certain death.
After clearing out the monsters, Mu Nianbing mounted his Cangming Jiao and flew toward Jinlin City.
Having consumed vast amounts of resources, the Cangming Jiao had finally evolved to Commander Level.
Its body stretched over fifty meters long, and its flight speed had multiplied several times—it could cross hundreds of meters in the blink of an eye.
Even more impressive, its Water Breath now carried an intense cold energy, slowing down the movements of enemies.
Though it was only a secondary effect, it proved invaluable in battle.
Elsewhere…
"Ming Cong is dead, and my arm is gone! What kind of training is this supposed to be?" Xu Dalong clutched his empty sleeve, glaring furiously at Lu Zhenghe.
His arm had been bitten off by Lu Zhenghe's Ghost-patterned Wolf.
"Damn it," Xu Dalong hissed. "If that bastard ends up dead because of Mu Nianbing, I'll celebrate!"
Lu Zhenghe avoided his gaze. The group's morale was broken.
None of them wanted to continue—this mission was far more dangerous than they had expected.
Nearby, Mu Ningxue clutched the Mind Focusing Artifact Mu Nianbing had given her.
A faint doubt flickered in her heart.
How did he know we'd run into a Bewitching Spider?
"This situation isn't suitable for further exploration," Mu Nujiao said, sighing. "Everyone, pack up. We're heading back."
No one argued. They just wanted to return to the city, take a hot bath, and sleep for a week.
Before long, the group had packed and started on their way back.
But not long after leaving the forested area, they encountered a squad of military mages dressed in green uniforms.
Relieved, the exhausted students exhaled in unison.
Finally—safety.
However, the man leading the soldiers, a rough-faced mage smoking a pipe, sneered when he saw them.
"Kill all the idlers," Lu Nian ordered coldly, raising his right hand.
Just as his men began to move, a massive pressure of wind swept down from above.
The air turned heavy. Shadows blanketed the earth.
Everyone froze—and when they looked up, their eyes went wide in shock.
High above them loomed an enormous, scaled figure with wings spanning dozens of meters—
"Monster Lizard Pseudo-Dragon!!"
