Immediately, all four Pokémon moved at once and surrounded Beedrill and Haunter, launching relentless attacks from every direction.
Beedrill struggled constantly to keep up, repeatedly facing dangerous situations and barely avoiding powerful strikes.
If not for its agility, it would already have lost the ability to battle.
The situation was extremely critical. If this continued, the disadvantage would only grow worse for Raj.
Even so, Raj remained calm. He stayed behind Muk while directing Haunter and Beedrill to counterattack whenever possible and occasionally seized opportunities to land a few strikes.
"What a joke. I won't give up until the very last moment. I'm destined to become number one."
At that moment Raj took out the two Poké Balls he still had remaining.
They were Dive Balls.
These were expensive Poké Balls especially suited for capturing Water-type Pokémon, and Raj had only recently exchanged them from the point shop.
Water-type Pokémon made up a large portion of all species, and many of them were extremely powerful, which made Dive Balls especially valuable.
Even inside the System shop, each one cost 10,000 points.
Inside these two Dive Balls were the mutated Magikarp and the Tentacool he had recently captured.
Raj had obtained this unusual Magikarp from the Magikarp salesman through persuasion and purchase. Even though its chances of evolving were extremely small, he still took great care of it, just like Tentacool.
Most of the Pokémon Raj had captured were fierce Poison-type or Dark-type Pokémon, but he always treated them carefully.
He never wanted to catch too many Pokémon because he would not be able to care for all of them properly.
Unlike Ash, he did not have Professor Oak supporting him.
No matter how many Pokémon Ash captured, Professor Oak would help take care of them and even gladly expand the Pokédex.
Because of that, Raj invested a great deal of effort and emotion into each of his Pokémon.
Even this Magikarp that only knew Splash received daily care.
Raj regularly combed its scales using special tools, massaged Tentacool's body, and bought food specially suited for Water-type Pokémon.
Whenever he encountered rivers or lakes, he would release them so they could play freely.
However, the current situation had already become extremely dangerous.
There was almost no hope left.
"You belong to the open ocean. You shouldn't stay trapped with me forever."
"This time I'm facing real danger. You're both still too weak, so don't follow me anymore."
"After today, we may never meet again. Go."
Raj opened both Dive Balls and released Magikarp and Tentacool into the river behind him.
Pokémon possessed intelligence far beyond ordinary animals.
Even Magikarp understood that something was different today.
Magikarp and Tentacool were both stunned.
Their Trainer had released them.
And the reason was simply so they would not be dragged into danger with him.
For a moment they remained floating silently on the water.
"Hurry and go. Leave before they notice you," Raj said while forcing himself to turn away.
He did not look back again.
Instead he faced the enemies ahead of him.
The situation was already extremely dangerous. Even the smallest mistake could mean defeat.
"Muk, go support Haunter and Beedrill," Raj said after thinking briefly.
Muk turned back and looked at Raj hesitantly.
Without Muk protecting him directly, Raj would be completely exposed.
It was obvious the enemies would not ignore such an opportunity.
"Don't worry about me. I have a plan," Raj said quietly.
His expression remained calm even in this desperate situation.
"You're impressive."
"For a Trainer who only started his journey recently, your performance is already exceptional."
"It's a pity. Even though I admire you, you still won't escape today."
"Poochyena, use Bite."
The tall man released another Poké Ball.
A Poochyena appeared instantly and rushed straight toward Raj with its jaws wide open.
Raj's expression changed immediately.
He had not expected them to still have another Pokémon ready.
This was a serious miscalculation.
Pokémon were much faster than humans.
Raj had no time to react as Poochyena lunged toward him.
Everything seemed to slow down.
The wind stopped.
Even the surrounding sounds faded.
Raj closed his eyes.
At that critical moment Beedrill suddenly moved.
Its body flashed into a yellow-green streak of light and struck Poochyena at a speed almost impossible to follow.
Poochyena was knocked away instantly and lost the ability to battle.
Even the three attackers were shocked.
They had never expected Beedrill, which had been trapped moments earlier, to suddenly break free and protect its Trainer.
"So it learned U-turn."
"U-turn is extremely fast. After using it, the Pokémon automatically returns to its Trainer."
"To master such a powerful Bug-type move at this moment, your Beedrill really is extraordinary," the tall man said coldly.
