The vampire groups leader, it's as if he doesn't even care that there's a wooden staff through his chest.
"I've done what I came to do", the leader coughs out. He faces me, "Humans are never to be trusted young wolf", his face could barely hide his pain but he forced himself to tell me those words.
His body erupts in flames. Only the awful smell of silver from the tips of his claws remains. Something doesn't feel right.
"I can see and feel it; many are the questions you have for me child. All will be answered by tonight", Master Dell says in his almost hoarse voice.
"He was going to say something! Something important! Even if it wasn't true he was my prey! I marked him and even if he was stronger you weren't supposed to take him down like you did. It's pack rules!".
"Go down to your room before the sun comes up. The villagers can't see you as you are now", Master says trying to calm me down.
He's right, I look beast-like the most when I'm angry. The villagers know what I am so I avoid them twice as much as they hate me.
"Fine!", I protect them because they can't protect themselves… At least that's what Master Dell tells me to convince myself of. I head to my room under the barn and lie on my bed. Master took care of me from the moment he rescued me from my parents. He always tells me I owe him nothing and that the kindness he showed me should be shown to everyone I meet. But him and I as far as everyone can see are nothing alike.
Before I knew it, I fall asleep.
I feel a stick poking my side, I try my best to ignore it cause I know it's Master Dell. I cover my head with my blanket but he just keeps at it.
"I'm up, I'm up. Drop the stick before you punch a hole through me too", I freeze. I didn't mean to say it like that, but since I have, I can't really take it back.
"The feelings of anger and doubt are especially rampant around your age Yori. Come…", Master Dell stretches out his hand and points for me to sit next to him.
"Don't the villagers need you though?", I ask as I sit up.
"They always will, the church sometimes ensures it", Master answers whilst walking to a chair in my room. "You see boy, what that vampire figured out is the whole reason why I ask you never to transform when you help me with patrols".
"But why?!", Master Dell makes sure I never transform. I thought it was because I was a monster and the villagers aren't.
He looks at me with the warm smile he had the day he found me, "Villages like this one all over this province use werewolves to ward off vampires but even amongst them you are different". Now that I think about it, I've never seen any other werewolf. Have I ever even turned before?
"Why do you look sad? I don't care about what kind of werewolf I am. As long as you're here with me the village will be fine Master!".
"You're not a werewolf, that's why you're special. Werewolves are vicious beasts that lost their humanity and use their beastly power to bring death to this world… But you dear Yori are a lycan"-
But, "Lycan!…How am I different from werewolves?".
"Lycans are those who have dominion of both their mind and body once turned"-
"Master Dell! The mayor would like a word with you!", we freeze. Sounds like it's one of the villagers calling for Master from the barn. But why didn't I-
"Yori. Listen carefully and promise to obey my words", He stands from his chair and grabs his wooden staff. I can still hear the villager calling for Master. "Only transform when your life is threatened and never let a soul apart from Umu take a glance of this bead".
"But what's happening! I don't understand. I promise I'll wake up early for patrol if this is what this is about". I can feel tears starting to roll down my face as he puts the bead in my hands.
"I'm glad you've taken the bead. Now swallow it and run"-
"I'm coming in!", the villager breaks through my door. The debris fall at Masters feet.
As the rubble settles, Master Dell stands between me and the villager. Now I can smell it! The smell of bloodlust!
"Now's your chance Yori! Swallow it and make a run for it boy!", I look at the bead in my hands, my eyes still blurry and swallow it. "That's my student! Hahaha!".
"He swallowed the bead!", The villager shouts. Master holds his wooden staff and rushes towards the villager.
He impales the villager through his stomach. The villager stretches out his hand at me.
Claws! But how? I knew who he was. He's the villager from last night! How could he be a vampire.
