Chapter 131 - Episode 129: Bamboo Garden Entrance — Grouping & Plan

The path opened slowly into a wider clearing. Stone lay unevenly underfoot as the bamboo thinned just enough for sunlight to settle gently on the ground.

The teachers stopped first at the entrance. Students gathered behind them in loose, sleepy waves with bags shifting on their shoulders.

Voices remained low, still carrying faint traces of sleep. "Alright," Ms. Lin said as she turned toward the group.

"From here, you'll move in groups." She paused briefly before continuing.

"Choose your partners. Stay with them for the day." The usual noisy chaos should have followed with names being called.

But this time none of that happened. Kai didn't turn around at all.

Rui didn't ask anyone anything. Dev didn't hesitate even for a moment.

Chen stayed exactly where he was standing. Wei didn't move from his spot.

Jian glanced once just to confirm the moment. Then he stayed right there without a word.

Just like that, the six of them stood together. No discussion took place and no decision was spoken aloud.

It was already decided in silence. "…wait," someone nearby muttered in surprise.

"Aren't you guys—" He stopped halfway through the question.

Another voice rose from the side. "You didn't even talk before this trip…"

Kai grinned lazily at the comment. "People grow."

Rui snorted softly in response. Dev shook his head with a small smile.

Chen didn't react at all to the words. But he didn't leave the group either.

Wei stood among them quietly and naturally. Jian remained in place without moving away.

From the front, the teachers noticed the change. Ms. Fang's gaze lingered as she observed them carefully.

Ms. Lin adjusted her glasses slightly. "…unexpected."

Mr. Chen gave a small, approving nod. "Good."

The whispers around them slowly faded away. It didn't look forced in any way.

They weren't awkward with each other. They weren't avoiding one another at all.

Kai laughed easily in the group. Rui replied without any hesitation.

Dev added something quiet and calm. Chen listened in thoughtful silence.

Wei stayed right there with them. Jian didn't leave or pull away.

It all looked surprisingly easy and natural. Ms. Lin tapped the map to bring everyone's focus back.

"Listen carefully." The paper unfolded, revealing its worn and creased edges.

"You've already completed your arrival day," she said clearly. "The night at the inn before the mountain—"

She paused for a brief moment. "—does not count."

A few students groaned softly at her words. "Yesterday," she continued in the same steady tone.

"you came up to the mountain.""That was your first night here."

Mr. Chen stepped forward with his pointer resting on the map. "This trip is structured across the next two days."

He tapped the map lightly with the pointer. "Today—"

He pointed directly to their current location. "Bamboo garden."

"You will stay within this area," he said firmly. "No long travel today."

He tapped the map once more for emphasis. "And tonight—you stay at the bamboo garden inn."

The reaction this time was much quieter. Less complaint and more quiet acceptance filled the air.

Ms. Fang spoke in a soft, gentle voice. "Today is slower."

Her eyes moved carefully across the students. "Pay attention."

Ms. Lin continued explaining the schedule smoothly. "Tomorrow—you visit the old temple."

She shifted the map upward slightly on the table. "Full day movement."

"And the day after—historic market," Mr. Chen added clearly. "After that, you return."

Silence followed her final words. It was not heavy, only thoughtful and absorbing.

Three nights in total for the trip. One night had already passed quietly.

Two nights still remained ahead. Kai stretched his arms overhead with a yawn.

"So today we just… walk around bamboo and pretend we're peaceful people?""You don't have to pretend," Rui said with a smirk.

"Just don't talk." A few quiet laughs rose from the group.

Chen folded his arms loosely across his chest. He watched the others with calm attention.

Wei looked at the map for a moment only. Then he looked away without comment.

Jian's gaze didn't stay fixed on the map. It shifted briefly toward Wei before returning forward.

"Same rule," Ms. Lin said firmly. "Stay with your group."

No one argued with the instruction. They were already standing together as a group.

The six of them didn't separate at all. They didn't reconsider their choice even once.

It simply held strong and felt natural now. "Move out in ten minutes," Mr. Chen said as he rolled the map slightly.

Students began to disperse again around them. This time they moved much slower with no real rush.

Kai nudged Dev gently with his elbow. "Bamboo garden inn sounds nice."

"It's not luxury," Chen said flatly. Kai blinked in genuine surprise.

"…you've been?" Chen didn't answer the question directly.

"Something like that." Kai looked like he wanted to ask more.

But in the end he didn't say anything. That quiet restraint was something new.

The group started moving forward once again. No one had to say "stay together" out loud.

No one needed to remind each other. Jian walked forward at a steady pace.

Wei walked right beside him naturally. It wasn't planned and wasn't noticed by others.

There was simply no space left between them. They weren't touching each other at all.

They weren't obviously close to anyone watching. But they were no longer distant anymore.

Behind them, Kai slowed his steps slightly. Chen matched his pace without effort.

"Still dizzy?" Chen asked quietly. Kai glanced over at him for a moment.

"…a little." A short pause hung between them.

"…and a little not." Chen didn't respond with any words.

But he didn't walk ahead either. The bamboo shifted softly around them in the wind.

Light filtered through the stalks in thin, gentle lines. The group moved forward together as six.

Nothing had been said aloud between them. Nothing had been officially confirmed.

But something quiet and unspoken. Had already changed for good.
