Chapter 109 - Chapter 106 – Noise Breaks

The secondary position was smaller and quieter than Site A, which Aiden understood as soon they sent the first round of files; small spaces amplified sound in ways large spaces did not, and the noise of the city outside the windows was a different kind of presence here, closer and more textured. Tal sat at the main terminal with his headphones on, eyes focused on the spreading pattern of data as it began to move across the network infrastructure he had built, and Suri leaned over his shoulder occasionally to adjust something in the routing, her hands moving with the same precise, unhurried steadiness that Tal's hands always moved in the presence of a system they both understood.

Aiden watched them from the edge of the room, standing in the way he stood when he wanted to be present without being in the way, his posture upright and contained, the way he was when he was listening more than he was speaking.

The files had begun to move.
