Chapter 34 - chapter 2

Chapter 2: The White Valley

Morning arrived beneath a sky hidden by silver clouds.

The Frozen Fortress was already awake.

Royal Guards moved across the walls, repairing broken towers while scouts prepared for another expedition into the snowy mountains.

Inside the council chamber, a large map covered the stone table.

Cassian, Selene, Elias, Lyra, Orion, and the Four Heirs stood around it.

The only marked location was the White Valley.

Cassian pointed to the northern mountains.

"Our scout saw the mysterious traveler here just before sunrise."

"He disappeared shortly afterward."

"Every search party we sent found only one thing."

"What?" Aarvi asked.

Cassian placed a small blue flower on the table.

The room fell silent.

The flower looked fresh.

Impossible.

Nothing should have bloomed in the frozen mountains.

Parna gently picked it up.

The moment she touched it, the flower glowed softly.

She closed her eyes.

A gentle breeze passed through the chamber.

Then she gasped.

"This flower isn't from our world."

Everyone stared at her.

"What do you mean?" Eva asked.

Parna slowly opened her eyes.

"I can't hear its memories."

"Every plant carries memories of the land where it grows."

"This one..."

"It belongs somewhere else."

Silence filled the room.

Riva immediately remembered the Gate from her vision.

Someone had truly crossed over.

Someone from the forgotten kingdom.

Or somewhere even older.

Orion finally spoke.

"If someone crossed the Gate..."

"They may know what happened before Aurelia fell."

Kael was missing.

Queen Aurelia's consciousness had disappeared.

The Keeper had become silent after Riva returned from the Final Archive.

Finding the traveler was now their only lead.

Cassian rolled up the map.

"We leave immediately."

An hour later...

The expedition departed.

Cassian led the way.

Beside him walked Selene and Orion.

Behind them followed Riva, Eva, Parna, and Aarvi.

Elias and Lyra remained behind to protect the Final Archive.

The mountain path was dangerous.

Snow covered ancient cliffs.

Strong winds echoed through narrow passages.

No one spoke much.

Each person remained lost in their own thoughts.

Riva couldn't stop thinking about the traveler.

Every instinct told her they weren't an enemy.

But every vision ended before she could see the traveler's face.

Suddenly...

Eva's compass began spinning.

"It stopped."

Everyone halted.

The compass pointed toward a narrow path hidden behind a wall of ice.

Cassian frowned.

"This route isn't on any map."

Orion stepped closer.

"It wasn't here before."

Selene carefully examined the frozen wall.

Someone had carved a strange symbol into the ice.

A five-pointed star surrounded by blooming flowers.

Riva recognized it instantly.

She had drawn that exact symbol hundreds of times as a child.

Without thinking, she placed her hand on it.

The symbol glowed.

A deep rumbling sound echoed beneath the mountain.

The frozen wall slowly moved aside.

A hidden passage appeared.

Cold air rushed from the darkness beyond.

Aarvi swallowed nervously.

"Why do I feel like walking into mysterious caves is becoming our hobby?"

Even Orion smiled.

Cassian drew his sword.

"Stay close."

The group entered.

The passage stretched deep beneath the mountain.

Its walls shimmered with blue crystals.

Unlike the Frozen Fortress, this place felt untouched.

Ancient.

Peaceful.

As though no one had entered for centuries.

Then Riva noticed footprints.

Fresh footprints.

Someone had walked through only moments earlier.

"They're close."

The group followed the trail.

After several minutes, the tunnel opened into an enormous underground valley.

Everyone stopped.

Above them wasn't stone.

It was sky.

A hidden sky.

Sunlight poured through a gigantic opening high above the mountain.

Flowers covered the valley floor.

Blue flowers.

Thousands of them.

Flowing rivers crossed the green fields.

Birds flew peacefully overhead.

It was impossible.

An entire spring valley hidden beneath endless snow.

Parna smiled with tears in her eyes.

"I can hear them..."

"The trees..."

"The rivers..."

"They're singing."

For the first time since leaving Aurelia, nature welcomed her.

Eva slowly turned in circles.

"My compass..."

"It doesn't know where to point."

The needle spun endlessly.

As if every direction mattered.

Orion looked around carefully.

"This place existed long before the fortress."

Cassian nodded.

"I've never seen it before."

Then...

A voice echoed through the valley.

"You shouldn't have come."

Everyone instantly drew their weapons.

Standing beside a crystal-clear lake was the hooded traveler.

The long black cloak moved gently in the wind.

The traveler held a wooden staff decorated with glowing blue flowers.

Their face remained hidden beneath the hood.

"You crossed the Gate."

Riva said quietly.

The traveler remained silent.

Instead...

They slowly removed the hood.

The Four Heirs stared in shock.

The traveler looked no older than twenty-five.

Long silver hair rested over their shoulders.

Bright blue eyes reflected the valley's light.

Their face carried both kindness and sadness.

But it wasn't their appearance that shocked everyone.

It was the mark on their forehead.

A glowing silver star.

Exactly like the symbol hidden inside the Final Archive.

The traveler smiled gently.

"I've been searching for you."

"For all five of you."

Orion immediately stepped forward.

"Who are you?"

The traveler looked directly into Orion's eyes.

Recognition flashed across their face.

"So..."

"You really don't remember me."

Before Orion could answer—

The peaceful valley suddenly shook violently.

The blue flowers closed their petals.

Birds fled into the sky.

The rivers stopped flowing.

A low growl echoed from somewhere beneath the earth.

The traveler's smile disappeared.

"They found me."

Cassian tightened his grip on his sword.

"Who?"

The traveler looked toward the dark forest at the edge of the valley.

"The Gate Hunters."

As if answering the words...

Three enormous shadows slowly emerged from the trees.

They wore black armor unlike anything the heroes had seen before.

Each carried a weapon made of black crystal.

Most terrifying of all...

None of them had faces.

Only empty darkness beneath their helmets.

The leader raised a black spear and pointed it directly at the traveler.

Then, in a voice that sounded like dozens of people speaking at once, it declared:

"Return the Key Bearer."

"Or all worlds shall fall."
