"Kael! Kael—I saw an eye! There was an eye in that magical circle!" I gasped, my heart hammering against my ribs as I clung to his arm.
"Calm down, my lady," he said, his voice steadying though his body was still coiled like a spring.
"What do you mean, calm down?! The ceiling just tried to blink at me!"
"It was a spell set by Master Eldric, my lady. Do not worry," he explained, slowly releasing his grip on my waist once he was sure the hallway was safe.
"Oh... Grandpa?" I repeated, blinking.
Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the dim hallway. Grandpa Eldric came rushing toward us, his robes fluttering. "What happened here? I felt the alarm trigger!"
Kael straightened, lowering his gaze. "My lady wanted to investigate the room, Master."
