"This Gyarados has reached the Mid-Elite level," Chuck muttered, his voice heavy with professional appraisal. "But Grimsley's Tyranitar is at the High-Elite level. This is going to be a grueling battle."
"It's an uphill climb, but Feng Che looks remarkably composed," Norman added, rubbing his chin. He had developed a strange, gut-level confidence in the Kanto trainer's abilities.
Beside them, Clemont and Lucian watched with rapt attention, neither wanting to miss a single tactical exchange.
On the field, Tyranitar glared aggressively at the Red Gyarados. With a thunderous roar, Gyarados twisted its serpentine body and ascended into the high atmosphere.
Suddenly, the sky over the arena began to churn with thick, ink-black clouds. A violent gale swept across the ground, whipping up fallen leaves and debris. The sudden darkness was so oppressive that the arena's automated sensors triggered, and the stadium's floodlights flickered on, casting a harsh, yellow glow over the combatants.
The other regional Gym Leaders and Elites paused their own warm-ups to witness the sudden weather shift.
"That Gyarados is incredible... to command such a violent storm on a whim," Misty marveled from the sidelines. She noticed that Gardenia's Torterra had just set up Sunny Day, only for the miniature artificial sun to be instantly swallowed by the torrential black clouds.

"Tyranitar, don't be intimidated! Whip up a storm of your own!" Grimsley commanded, unfazed. He didn't care about Rain Dance. His Tyranitar's physical resilience was at its peak; a bit of water wouldn't break its stride.
Tyranitar unhinged its jaw and let out a roar that shook the earth. Instantly, billowing plumes of yellow sand erupted from its body, clashing with the falling rain. The "Sandstream" ability took hold, filling the arena with a gritty, blinding haze.
Feng Che had already deployed a psychic barrier to shield himself, while Gyarados encased itself in an Aqua Ring to wash away the stinging grit.
"Tyranitar, Stone Edge!"
Tyranitar slammed its foot into the ground, and jagged pillars of rock erupted from the earth. They shot into the air like high-velocity shells, screaming toward Gyarados.
"This is my Tyranitar's signature pressure. No ordinary Pokémon can withstand this barrage," Grimsley boasted. But his confidence wavered when he saw a faint smirk on Feng Che's face.
Gyarados danced through the air. Its massive frame was surprisingly limber; it dodged the majority of the stone pillars. Those few that did connect merely left shallow white scuffs on its crimson scales—marks that were almost instantly smoothed over by the healing effects of the Aqua Ring.
The failed assault provided Gyarados with the perfect window to complete a Dragon Dance. Its aura flared, its speed and power surging. It opened its maw and unleashed a Dragon Pulse.
The beam descended like a falling star. Tyranitar manipulated the swirling sands into a reinforced Sand Shield, burying itself within the protective dome. The Dragon Pulse collided with the sand, resulting in a deafening explosion. Shards of rock and sand flew like shrapnel, only to be stopped by a translucent barrier—Sabrina had stepped in with her Mr. Mime's Light Screen.
As the smoke cleared, both titans remained unscathed, locked in a murderous stare.
The rain intensified, the heavy droplets actually stinging as they struck Tyranitar's hide. Sensing the pressure, Tyranitar began to condense massive amounts of Rock-type energy.
"Tyranitar, Rock Wrecker!"
A gargantuan boulder formed before Tyranitar, which it hurled with bone-shattering force at the flying dragon.
"Gyarados, don't back down. Use Bind!"
Instead of evading, Gyarados lunged at the boulder. It coiled its powerful body around the massive rock. With a single, mighty constriction and a roar of effort, the boulder was crushed into a thousand fragments.
It's too fast, Grimsley realized, a seed of doubt finally taking root. How is a 'nobody' Gym Leader outplaying me? He felt the pressure of Feng Che's clinical, superior battle style.
"Tyranitar, Rock Tomb!"
Tyranitar gestured, and dozens of boulders materialized in the air to rain down on Gyarados. Simultaneously, it began charging a Dark Pulse in its throat, planning a pincer attack.
Gyarados used Aqua Tail, its shimmering tail smashing the falling rocks into dust. Just as the Dark Pulse fired—a black beam of malice shooting upward—Gyarados countered with another Dragon Pulse.
The two beams collided in mid-air, creating a shockwave so powerful it blew away the surrounding storm clouds. The resulting concussive force slammed into the ground, spider-webbing the battlefield with cracks. Tyranitar, caught in the backlash, was forced several steps back.
"Gyarados, now! Dive and use Aqua Tail!"
Gyarados soared to the apex of its flight before diving at terminal velocity. It swung its tail with a sound like a whip crack. Tyranitar only had time to cross its arms in a desperate guard before the blow landed.
The impact slammed Tyranitar into the ground. Its armor, famed for its hardness, developed visible hairline fractures. Gyarados didn't let up. Using the momentum, it swung its tail again, batting the massive Tyranitar sideways.
Tyranitar skidded across the floor, only coming to a halt when it slammed into Sabrina's Light Screen.
"That's two down, Elite Grimsley," Feng Che said, his voice cold and steady. "One more, and you're out."
