"However, you've taken the lead in the last two rounds. This time, I'll go first," Feng Che remarked as he tossed a Poké Ball.
"Go, Venusaur!"
A gargantuan Venusaur appeared on the battlefield.
"That Venusaur is massive... it's three to four times the size of a standard one," Erika noted, her eyes fixed intently on the Pokémon.
"A Venusaur, huh? In that case, don't blame me for being ruthless. Come forth, Hydreigon!"
Grimsley sent out his strongest partner, a Hydreigon. Its strength was at the peak of the Elite Four level, just a hair's breadth away from breaking into the Champion rank.
"Hydreigon, show this kid your true power! Triple Flamethrower!"
The Hydreigon's three heads simultaneously exhaled pillars of orange-red flame, converging into a devastating inferno aimed directly at Venusaur.
"Venusaur, use Earth Power!"
Venusaur extended hundreds of vines, braiding them into two massive wooden mallets. It slammed the mallets into the earth, causing plumes of thick dust and soil to erupt from the ground. Under the influence of Earth Power, the triple fire pillars were intercepted. Sparks scattered across the arena, dyeing the sky a brilliant, chaotic red.
"Venusaur, Wood Hammer!"
Before Hydreigon could adjust, Venusaur's vine-mallets tore through the dust cloud and swung toward the dragon. Hydreigon let out a thunderous roar, flapping its wings to soar higher into the air. The massive mallets struck the ground with bone-shaking force, generating a violent gale. If not for Sabrina's psychic barrier, many nearby Gym Leaders would have been knocked off their feet.
"Venusaur, Vine Whip!"
The mallets instantly unraveled, and a hundred vines surged upward like a swarm of serpents, blanketing the sky as they pursued Hydreigon.
"Hydreigon, use Triple Ice Beam!"
Hydreigon took a deep breath, and its three maws discharged a concentrated barrage of freezing blue energy.
"Venusaur, Brutal Swing!"
Feng Che snapped his fingers. The vines, which had been reaching for the dragon, suddenly began to whip around with a high-pitched whistle. They formed an impenetrable barrier of lashing wood, shattering the Ice Beams on contact. Fine ice shards drifted through the air like salt, creating a white mist as the temperature in the arena plummeted.
Venusaur then used Ingrain, its roots sinking deep into the arena to continuously restore its stamina.
"Venusaur, Petal Dance!"
Venusaur retracted its foot-roots and began a rhythmic movement. The scent of flowers filled the air as countless pink petals drifted from the bloom on its back. Simultaneously, a dense cloud of golden powder began to diffuse throughout the space. The swirling petals obscured everyone's vision, while the golden powder added a shimmering, aesthetic beauty to the scene.
"Hydreigon, use Flamethrower!"
Watching the concentration of petals grow thicker, Grimsley made a fatal tactical error.
BOOM!
A massive mushroom cloud erupted from the center of the battlefield. The entire arena was instantly transformed into a sea of fire. Even Mr. Mime's translucent Light Screen was shattered into fragments by the concussive force. Fortunately, Caitlin, Lucian, and Sabrina combined their psychic powers to create a secondary barrier, preventing casualties among the spectators.
"How could there be such a massive explosion? What did you do?!" Grimsley shouted, his pupils reflecting the roaring inferno.
"Have you ever heard of a dust explosion?"
Feng Che smiled, revealing a row of neat white teeth.
"I had Venusaur use Petal Dance while simultaneously dispersing a massive amount of Stun Spore. In a confined space, these petals and fine spores act as highly combustible fuel. I simply used your Hydreigon's Flamethrower as the ignition source."
"Your Hydreigon's situation doesn't look very optimistic," Feng Che added confidently.
"Haha! My Hydreigon has dragon blood; it can recover quickly. But your Venusaur isn't so lucky!" Grimsley mocked. "As a Grass-type caught in the center of a dust explosion, it's likely been vaporized."
As the flames subsided, Grimsley saw that his Hydreigon had suffered extensive burns. However, where Venusaur had been standing, there was only a massive, empty crater.
"The moment the explosion occurred, my Venusaur used Dig to hide safely underground," Feng Che countered with a cold smile.
Grimsley's expression stiffened; he felt the sting of defeat once again. However, Hydreigon's tail remained pressed against the ground, using Roost to steadily restore its vitality.
"Hydreigon, Crunch!"
Hydreigon lunged with its massive jaws. Venusaur countered by lashing out with vines that moved like giant pythons, obscuring the sun. Suddenly, sparks erupted from Hydreigon's maws. It bit down on the vines, shredding them instantly.
It was using a combination of Fire Fang and Crunch.
"I see. You gave the order for Crunch, but secretly signaled for Fire Fang," Feng Che noted, clapping his hands. "The combination is strong enough to tear through even iron-hard vines. But unfortunately for you, my Venusaur's vines can grow indefinitely."
With another snap of his fingers, the severed vines regenerated instantly. Hundreds of whips whistled through the air, continuing the assault on Hydreigon.
"Hydreigon, don't panic! Use Dragon Pulse!"
Hydreigon exhaled three golden torrents of draconic energy, which coalesced into a spectral three-headed dragon that lunged at Venusaur.
"Venusaur, Leaf Blade!"
A flash of brilliant green light sliced through the air. The spectral dragon dissipated into harmless energy under the precision strike.
"Finish it, Venusaur!"
Vines erupted from the ground beneath Hydreigon, binding it tightly. The vines began to drain Hydreigon's remaining energy via Leech Seed. Moments later, the dragon went limp, falling into a dead faint.
"Return, Hydreigon."
As Grimsley recalled his final Pokémon, his defeat was absolute. The pride of the Unova Elite Four had been thoroughly dismantled, and he stood there with his face burning in silent shame.
