Leaving the room and stumped Sonia behind, Kelvin stormed into his study and slammed the door shut.
The force of it reverberated through the entire building, the sound sharp enough to make even the guards outside stiffen.
The guards standing at Sonia's door exchanged glances before shaking their heads knowingly.
It seemed the boss was erupting in anger again.
Kelvin Thorne had always been known for his composure and unshakable self-control.
No matter the situation, he remained steady and unaffected.
To put it mildly, he was an emotionally unavailable man. There were only a handful of expressions anyone had ever seen on his face.
Cold.
Distant.
Expressionless.
And on the rare occasions he did get angry, it was never loud or chaotic. A cruel smirk would ghost across his lips, or his eyes would narrow slightly—subtle, restrained, controlled.
No one had ever truly understood what he felt.
Or if he even felt at all.
But over the past few days… that control had begun to fracture.
His anger was no longer contained. It surged unpredictably, erupting without warning.
"I think I have to thank this lady whenever I meet her…" one muttered under breath.
The other nodded. "You are right…at least he could express human emotions even if it's only anger."
Meanwhile, the study room was in disarray.
Files were scattered. A chair had been pushed out of place. The air itself felt heavy, charged.
Kelvin paced the room, his fists clenched tightly at his sides, the veins along his arms faintly visible. His eyes burned with a fury he was trying to suppress yet failing miserably
After a while, he forced himself to stop, taking deep steady breaths while he schooled himself.
Kelvin get it together. You have done your best. Even if she Insists on walking back to her death...just bear with it.
But even as he tried to steady himself, the truth pressed down harder, the reality glaring.
His thoughts spun in his mind at the recollection of Sonia asking after Alex Hort even in her condition.
Why?
It was obvious, she was still hung up on Alex, she still cared about him?
Even with how bad he had treated her.
Alex didn't want her… isn't it right she should leave while she still had her life.
Kelvin wasn't reconciled.
He sighed helplessly.
If that's what she wants then...I will fulfill her.
Kelvin let out a sharp breath and walked over to his chair, sinking into it heavily.
He pressed his fingers against his throbbing brow, eyes shutting briefly as if trying to block out the thoughts clawing at him.
Buzz
Buzz
Buzz
The vibration of his phone broke through the silence. Kelvin's brow furrowed, he picked the phone from the table and slid the answer button.
"Yes." Kelvin said flatly.
A cold voice filtered through the phone speaker. "The arrangement has all been completed…do you mind taking a look?"
Kelvin drew in a deep breath.
'It's okay." He said leisurely. "I have a few things to handle so I will come over later?"
"Alright. I will wait."
"What about him?" Kelvin's voice dropped, low and dangerous, carrying a restrained edge of rage.
"He's been with her the entire time… hasn't left her side," the man reported.
A flicker of something dark passed through Kelvin's eyes.
"Get a few candid shots," he ordered calmly. "Send them to me immediately."
The call ended.
Kelvin lowered the phone slowly, his grip tightening around it for a moment before he exhaled and shook his head.
******
Kelvin walked toward the ward, his expression once again calm, composed as ever. A tray of food rested steadily in his hand.
The guards straightened immediately upon seeing him and pushed the door open without a word.
He paused briefly at the entrance. Then took a slow breath. Only then did he step inside.
Sonia lay on the bed, her body still weak and fragile.
Though she had regained her consciousness, her body demanded more rest than usual, falling into sleep faster and deeper than normal.
So despite her earlier resistance and struggle to keep awake she had still fallen asleep.
Kelvin approached quietly and set the tray down on a table beside her bed.
His gaze shifted to the IV line connected to her right hand. He adjusted it carefully before reaching for her left hand, gently lifting it to check her pulse. For a moment, his expression softened.
Then he began checking her vitals.
But her eyes snapped open, her cold gaze locked on him.
"How are you doing today?" he muttered casually, his voice calm and loud enough to fill the quiet room.
Like always, he was met with silence but Kelvin was neither offended nor bothered.
He seemed to have gotten used to her coldness. For the past two days, Sonia had excelled on just on thing.
To keep her silence.
At first, Kelvin had thought she was affected by the long period she had spent in coma but her facial expression says otherwise.
"This should be the last blood bag to take and your blood level would be okay?" He stated calmly.
Sonia's eyes flickered to the blood bag before she retracted her gaze again to the man's face.
Kelvin continued anyway. "And your IV solution dosage should be completed by tomorrow."
When he was done adjusting the IV line, he bent beside the bed to check her pulse and heart rate.
"You are good." He said with a small smile before he straightened up.
Silence.
Kelvin dragged a chair closer and sat down, crossing one leg over the other as he began writing his observations in a file.
Once done, he set the file down on his laps and lifted his gaze to meet her eyes staring wide at him.
Kelvins lips curled up with amusement. "Got something to say?" He smirked.
Sonia glared at him but didn't speak.
"My lady, you and I know it is of no use looking at me that way... besides I am still the one that saved you." Kelvin said and shrugged his shoulder.
"What is your purpose?" Sonia asked coldly.
"I don't think that should be your concern at the moment..." Kelvin began.
"That's my concern," She swiftly interrupted. "I don't like playing a game of hide and seek."
Sonia had always believed battles are better won when you are clear with purpose and partners.
So, no matter how grateful she felt towards Kelvin Thorne for helping her out of the hospital, she still wants to be clear.
Kelvin shook his head helplessly. He had always meet various shades of Sonia's character...humble, patient, understanding but this Sonia felt much more different.
He couldn't place his hand on what changed but she had turned colder and maybe...deadly.
"Think of me being an ally." He said curtly.
"What's your score with Alex Hort?"
Kelvin brow furrowed slightly. His thoughts spun with a question he had long avoided answering.
Was there any score between them?
He shook his head lightly. If there is any score then say he never liked how he treated her.
But as he looked at the lady before him, he knew better than give her such an answer...she definitely can't believe him.
He exhaled sharply.
"No score, just say he hurt someone I care about."
