Arnold turned sharply toward her, his face dark with anger. "You call that anger?" he barked. "He is being completely disobedient."
His voice came out hoarse as rage consumed him. The force of his outburst made him choke on his own saliva, sending him into a fit of coughing.
Alarmed, Vanessa hurried to his side and gently patted his back, trying to calm him while murmuring words of comfort.
Watching the familiar scene unfold before him, Dominic couldn't help letting out a quiet laugh.
The irony was almost amusing. For so many years, he had convinced himself that they were a family.
Now, however, he finally realized just how foolish he had been.
He slipped both hands into his pockets before flashing a casual smile. "I think I have to take my leave," he said lazily. "I have someone waiting for me at the club."
Without waiting for a response, Dominic turned around and walked toward the exit.
Just a few metres away from the door, he suddenly stopped.
