That response tingled in Kelvin's ear and he frowned deeply. He stared at Rita for a brief moment trying to understand what she meant but it eluded him.
Unwilling to beat himself up for clarity, his gaze locked on Rita, "What do you mean?"
Rita folded her arms across her chest and smiled knowingly. "Before she was kidnapped..."
She deliberately paused, allowing curiosity to consume him before quietly finishing, "...she had already made plans to leave you."
Kelvin's finger trembled as his heartbeat suddenly quickened. "Plans to leave me? Why?"
Rita let out a soft chuckle. "Considering her reason...and everything you've done over the past five days, I'd say she made the right decision."
"Right decision?" Kelvin repeated calmly.
"She was going to die…" Rita continued rattling on but Kelvin had long stopped listening and the temperature inside the study seemed to plummet instantly.
