Adams' voice was tight, yet the tremor in it was quite unmistakable, and so was the tension in his shoulders.
He stared at Fred with his brow knitted and a mix of emotions swirling in his eyes. His hand slowly curled into a fist.
Feeling his eyes on him, Fred swallowed. His heart thumped hard against his chest. His eyes were everywhere in the corridor except on him.
He dared not meet his gaze or even look at him.
He wasn't sure how to approach the topic, not after assuring everyone that she would be leaving the hospital today.
Though she definitely could, there was still the possibility that she might need to be monitored closely.
Fred couldn't help blaming himself for such an oversight. But the next second, Adams' cold voice cut through his thoughts.
"Fred, I ask you again... what happened?"
Fred's eyes met his, and his stomach dropped. The look on Adams' face and the emotions swirling in his eyes made it clear.
He forcefully parted his lips.
"Something came up..."
