"Work is fine, Lu Ba." I answered the third time since the call started. I paced slowly in the companion's lounge at my workplace, phone pressed to my cheek and my forehead creased with unease.
I had just finished with my second and final client, following the new schedule I had come up with after last week's incident, much to my manager's dismay.
"Are you sure? Do you want me to come pick you up straight from work?"
I sighed. "No, Baba. I can get there on my own, just like I've been managing all these years."
He sighed. "I'm just worried…"
Just then someone walked through the main entrance, and my head immediately snapped in that direction.
It wasn't someone I recognized.
I exhaled.
"Baba, I said I'm fine. You don't have to call every fifteen minutes," I said, forcing a chuckle.
