Chapter 200 - Chapter 199  -  Incredible. Little by Little, I’m Starting to Understand Everything.

"Yes. A truly flawless performance. This proves that Light and Miss Misa are not Kira. At least… not right now."

L's voice came through the car radio.

After his explanation, the theater sank into an eerie silence.

Just as many of them had guessed, L had asked Light's father to act. He wanted to test whether, when pushed to the edge between life and death, Light and Misa would use that mysterious power to kill from a distance.

Based on L's understanding of Kira's personality, if Light truly were Kira, then even if the person threatening him was his own father, he should have killed him without hesitation in order to survive. Misa was the same. With the almost deranged love she had for Light, if she were the second Kira and saw someone trying to kill him, she would certainly have activated her ability.

But neither of them did anything.

That meant they truly were not Kira.

Even though the audience, with their godlike perspective, had already guessed that this was most likely one of L's schemes, viewers in theaters all over the world still instinctively sucked in a cold breath.

Did he really have to go that far?

"Could it be that the protagonist predicted he would face a situation like this, so he voluntarily gave up ownership of the Death Note?"

Sitting behind Alex and the singer, Beatrice murmured softly to herself.

If Light had still possessed his memories of the Death Note at that moment, then no matter how good his acting was, faced with a situation like that, he absolutely would have exposed some flaw. But because he had lost his memories, his current reaction perfectly matched that of an innocent person who had been dragged into a terrifying incident.

The singer unconsciously licked his lips.

If Light had even predicted this, then his intelligence was far too terrifying.

Thinking of that, he quietly glanced sideways at Alex.

No.

The truly terrifying one was still the man sitting beside him.

After all, he was the one who had written this script.

The film continued.

Although Light and Misa had been released from confinement, L did not abandon his suspicions toward them. Since there could be two Kiras, there was no reason to rule out the existence of a third Kira.

And that third Kira might even be working with them.

Based on that possibility, L handcuffed himself to Light with a long chain, while Misa was placed under police surveillance twenty-four hours a day.

Soon, L also deduced that Kira might possess a method to transfer his ability to someone else. And once the ability was transferred, the original holder would lose all memories related to it.

As he said this, L glanced meaningfully at Light from the corner of his eye.

That was right.

He still suspected him.

"Damn! Isn't L way too smart?"

"I already thought Light's play was pushed to the absolute limit, but L still managed to figure that much out?"

"The protagonist must have been afraid of L's reasoning ability, so he simply erased his own memories. That way, he wouldn't reveal any flaws in front of him."

"I was worried that since Alex wrote the first half of the movie so insanely well, the second half might collapse. Now I'm not worried at all."

The fans whispered among themselves with burning excitement.

The first half of Death Note had been too brilliant. So when the second half was about to be released, many fans had worried that Alex had set up such a perfect opening that the story might fall apart afterward.

But now, looking at it, there was no need to worry.

You could doubt his character.

But you could always trust his talent.

The singer rubbed his chin, thinking that although Light's moves were dazzling, L's reasoning ability was not inferior in the slightest.

He had guessed Light's plan wrong before. But as the plot continued, more and more viewers, including him, began wondering how Light would turn the tables next.

After all, Light had already lost the Death Note.

So how would he arrange his next move?

Would he have Rem return and give the Death Note back to him, allowing him to regain control?

However, in the very next scene, every viewer who had thought that was slapped hard in the face by Alex's script.

The scene shifted to a grand, luxurious conference room.

Eight people sat around the table with solemn expressions.

"All right. It's about time we began this week's regular meeting."

"Who should we ask Kira… to kill?"

Through their conversation, the audience quickly understood that this group had most likely established a cooperative relationship with Kira. More accurately, with the third Kira, the one who had obtained the Death Note.

They were using Kira's power to kill their company's competitors.

But when the company name Netfi appeared, and one of the men at the table was revealed to be Reagan, a current director of Netfi, quite a few viewers lowered their heads and laughed.

Good grief.

So the investor had slipped in some private advertising?

In the corner of the conference room, Rem stood silently, coldly watching everything unfold. In her heart, there was only disgust.

Human beings really were ugly creatures.

The plot continued. Still in a state of lost memory, Light joined forces with L to investigate the Kira case.

The audience also understood why Light had voluntarily given up ownership. If he had retained his memories, he would absolutely have exposed himself in front of L. That was why he had no choice but to take this dangerous gamble.

Soon, the two discovered something wrong with the Netfi Group.

Among the people killed by the new Kira, several were direct competitors of the company. Their deaths had brought enormous benefits to Netfi.

The third Kira, the person to whom Rem had handed the Death Note, was played by Reagan, the boss of Netfi and also one of Alex's main targets when it came to squeezing resources out of investors.

This capital tycoon, who loved mystery stories more than anything, had become completely obsessed after watching the first half of Death Note. When Alex began filming the second half, Reagan repeatedly begged him for a cameo role.

He simply loved the movie too much.

After thinking it over, Alex decided to let Reagan try playing the third Kira, the character who would become the first person Light killed after reclaiming the Death Note.

Perhaps because both of them were capitalists, Reagan's performance felt almost natural. When he played that black-hearted businessman being toyed with by Light and L until he was completely lost, he genuinely carried the right flavor.

The story continued moving forward. The police team led by L successfully used a trap to capture the third Kira played by Reagan.

And from him, they finally learned Kira's method of murder.

The Death Note.

"Huh?!"

The moment L took the Death Note, he immediately saw Rem standing behind Reagan. His whole body jolted, and he nearly fell out of his seat.

"There really is… something like that?"

Even with L's calm personality, truly seeing a supernatural existence left him stunned.

When L finally came back to his senses, he realized that the Death Note in his hand had disappeared without him noticing. Turning his head, he found that Light, seated beside him, had already taken it.

But when L looked over, he saw Light's mouth hanging wide open as he stared at Rem not far away, eyes filled with shock.

"Aaaaaah!"

Light's heart-piercing scream startled even L beside him.

And in that very instant, all of Light's memories returned.

From the moment he had first obtained the notebook a year ago, all the way to the moment several months earlier when he had voluntarily abandoned ownership.

Everything came flooding back.

"Uh… are you all right? Well, no wonder. Anyone would be frightened after seeing a monster like that."

L tried to comfort him.

But from an angle L could not see, the corners of Light's mouth rose wildly, revealing that iconic, demonic expression of his.

He was holding back.

He still could not laugh.

But the joy of victory had already pushed him so close to the edge that even his eyes seemed ready to roll back.

"I won."

Light's inner voice echoed beside the ears of every viewer. Paired with the oppressive soundtrack, it made everyone in the theater break out in goosebumps.

"Everything went according to plan."

For a moment, several celebrities sitting near Alex in the premiere theater could not help turning to look at him.

That acting was insane.

Then, the film entered Light's flashback.

It turned out he had predicted long ago that even after losing his memories, he would certainly end up investigating the Kira case alongside L.

Only by doing this could he hide beside L without exposing any flaws.

And events had unfolded exactly as he had expected.

Now, the third Kira had lost all value.

Thinking this, while L's attention was completely drawn to the captured third Kira, Light quietly opened the cover of his watch.

Inside it was a small piece of paper from the Death Note.

At that sight, every viewer was shocked.

So before losing his memories, he had secretly hidden a page?

Light silently cut his fingertip and used his blood to write the third Kira's name on the paper.

Reagan.

That was right.

This character shared the same name as his actor, the boss of Netfi.

By now, Reagan had completely become a die-hard fan of Death Note. When filming this scene, he even said that if he had to die, being killed by the Death Note would not be such a bad way to go.

Fine.

Wish granted.

Forty seconds passed.

The third Kira, already under police control, began convulsing violently. Then, with a pained cry, he staggered and collapsed to the ground.

All the police officers present froze in shock.

Because they were far too familiar with this situation.

Cardiac arrest.

Inside the helicopter, L stared in utter disbelief.

Beside him, Light glanced toward him with a wicked, murderous gaze, his heart laughing coldly without end.

You're next, L.

After watching this chain of schemes unfold one after another, movie fans all over the world were completely stunned.

Incredible.

Little by little, they were starting to understand everything.

Through Light's flashback, they finally understood the reason behind that entire series of seemingly incomprehensible actions.

Every step had been calculated.

My God.

This was too mind-burning.

"Damn, that expression! I want to screenshot it and turn it into a meme."

"I just learned another line."

"OMG! He actually calculated that far? Sure enough, between these two, Light is still the smarter one!"

"Is L finally finished now?"

"But isn't this bad? The protagonist is clearly twisted already. If he wins, who knows what kind of world he'll create?"

"Alex is too terrifyingly brilliant. I can't even imagine what kind of mental state he was in when he wrote this script."

In the premiere theater, the singer sighed softly.

"I absolutely don't want to offend you. Otherwise, I might get played to death without even knowing when the game started."

Nadia looked at Alex as well, still a little frightened.

"Alex, that expression you made just now was really scary. The one during 'everything went according to plan'..."
