The Choice That Spread Without Permission
The first choice did not announce itself.
It slipped through the cracks of fear and settled where fear had grown tired.
Cassian noticed the shift before anyone else. He stood before the ledger at dawn, eyes scanning the new entries with a stillness that was almost reverent.
"They are not coordinated," he said quietly. "But they are aligned."
Lucien stepped closer. "Who."
"Small settlements. Healers. Scouts. Betas without titles." Cassian tapped the stone lightly. "They are acting first and recording after."
I closed my eyes briefly.
"They stopped waiting," I said.
Lucien exhaled slowly. "That is dangerous."
"Yes," I replied. "And irreversible."
By midmorning, the basin filled again. Not with delegations. With individuals.
A patrol leader arrived first, armor worn thin. "I rerouted my unit last night. There was unrest. No authority available. We intervened."
Cassian nodded. "Recorded."
