The second kiss was different.
The first one had been cautious. Curious. Almost experimental.
This one wasn't.
When Elias stepped forward and closed the distance, Dominic didn't expect it. For half a second he froze in surprise, and that tiny pause gave Elias the strange, thrilling realization that he had initiated it.
That had never happened before.
Dominic recovered quickly.
His hand moved instinctively, resting lightly against Elias's side as the kiss deepened just enough to make the air between them feel warmer.
Elias wasn't thinking anymore.
That was the strange part.
For most of his life, every action passed through layers of logic and careful calculation. His brain analyzed everything
consequences, reactions, probabilities.
Right now none of that was happening.
Right now he was just… reacting.
Dominic's hand tightened slightly on his side, pulling him closer.
The movement broke the kiss for a moment.
They both inhaled softly.
Dominic looked at him with a mixture of amusement and something deeper.
"Well," he murmured.
"That was unexpected."
Elias was still very aware of how close they were standing.
"Yes."
"You kissed me."
"Yes."
Dominic tilted his head slightly.
"You look confused about it."
"I am."
Dominic chuckled quietly.
"Elias, you literally just proved my entire argument."
"What argument?"
"That you like me."
"That conclusion might be premature."
Dominic laughed.
"You initiated the kiss."
"That doesn't automatically prove anything."
Dominic stared at him.
"You are the most stubborn person I've ever met."
Elias crossed his arms.
"I prefer precise conclusions."
Dominic leaned back against the desk again, still smiling.
"Alright, Professor Logic. Let's review the data."
Elias groaned quietly.
"Don't start."
Dominic ignored him.
"You kissed me."
"Yes."
"You didn't stop the first kiss."
"That's already been discussed."
"You're standing three inches away from me."
"That's proximity, not evidence."
Dominic shook his head, laughing again.
"You're unbelievable."
Elias tried to look annoyed, but the faint warmth in his chest made it difficult.
Dominic noticed the subtle change in his expression.
His voice softened slightly.
"You know you don't have to fight it this hard."
"I'm not fighting anything."
"You absolutely are."
Elias opened his mouth to argue.
But the system behind them spoke again.
Biometric indicators remain elevated.
Dominic burst out laughing.
"Oh my god, it's still watching."
Elias sighed.
"It monitors environmental variables."
Dominic glanced at the screen.
"Environmental variables like kissing?"
"It's analyzing stress responses."
Dominic smirked.
"Sure."
He turned back toward Elias.
"You realize your machine is basically our third wheel right now."
Elias rubbed his temple again.
"I did not design it for relationship commentary."
Dominic leaned closer to the console.
"Hey system."
Yes.
Elias groaned immediately.
"Dominic"
"Relax," Dominic said, still smiling.
He looked at the screen.
"Is Elias currently experiencing emotional attraction?"
The system responded instantly.
Data strongly suggests emotional attachment to subject Dominic.
Dominic stared at the screen for a moment.
Then he turned slowly toward Elias.
"Oh this is fantastic."
Elias closed his eyes briefly.
"This is why human interpretation of data is dangerous."
Dominic stepped closer again.
His voice lowered.
"You built a machine that literally confirms you like me."
"It's misreading the situation."
Dominic leaned slightly forward.
"Is it?"
Elias looked up at him.
For a moment neither of them spoke.
Then Dominic's hand moved again.
This time it reached Elias's wrist.
The contact was gentle.
But deliberate.
Elias felt the warmth of his fingers immediately.
Dominic watched his reaction carefully.
"You didn't pull away," he murmured.
Elias glanced down at their hands.
"No."
Dominic's thumb brushed lightly against his wrist.
The small movement sent a subtle spark up Elias's arm.
Dominic noticed.
His smile softened into something quieter.
"You feel that too, don't you?"
Elias swallowed slightly.
"That could be interpreted in several ways."
Dominic laughed under his breath.
"Of course that's your answer."
He stepped closer again, slowly closing the small space Elias had created earlier.
"Let me simplify things," Dominic said softly.
"How?"
Dominic lifted his other hand and rested it lightly against the edge of the desk beside Elias.
Now Elias was standing between Dominic and the console again.
Not trapped.
Just very close.
Dominic's voice lowered.
"You like me."
Elias didn't respond.
Dominic's thumb brushed his wrist again.
"You kissed me twice."
Elias inhaled slowly.
Dominic leaned slightly closer.
"And right now…"
His voice dropped to a whisper.
"…you're not stepping away."
Elias's heart was beating faster again.
He knew Dominic was right.
The logical choice would have been to create distance.
To reset the situation.
Instead he stayed exactly where he was.
Dominic studied him for a moment.
Then he smiled softly.
"That's what I thought."
Elias finally spoke.
"You're very confident."
Dominic shrugged slightly.
"I just trust the evidence."
Elias rolled his eyes.
"You're impossible."
Dominic leaned closer.
"And yet you keep kissing me."
The warmth between them returned instantly.
Elias realized something in that moment.
He had spent an entire year convincing himself that Dominic's absence had been necessary.
That distance had simplified things.
But standing here now…
Nothing felt simpler.
It felt complicated.
Dangerous.
Strangely exciting.
Dominic seemed to sense the shift in his thoughts.
His voice softened again.
"You know what I think?"
"What?"
"I think you've been lonely."
Elias frowned.
"That's not accurate."
Dominic's hand moved slightly higher on his arm.
"Maybe not consciously."
The warmth of his touch lingered there.
"But you missed this."
Elias looked at him carefully.
"This?"
Dominic's lips curved slightly.
"Me."
Elias hesitated.
And that hesitation was enough.
Dominic leaned closer again.
This time he didn't ask.
He simply kissed him.
And Elias didn't stop him.
