Chapter 131 - FBI in Action

Inside the apartment, the moment the gunshots rang out...

Léon, the hitman who was staying in his apartment today without a mission, immediately leaped up from the sofa where he was resting.

He quickly grabbed a gun and went to the door.

He removed the lock cylinder from the door handle, which he had tampered with previously.

Then, peering through the hole in the handle, Léon cautiously stood guard.

The apartment building hadn't been peaceful recently; Léon had noticed this.

First, about ten days ago, someone installed a surveillance camera at the main entrance.

Furthermore, Léon knew someone had broken into the sixth floor and entered the apartment directly across from his own.

Although Léon had communication barriers and wasn't good at dealing with people...

He wasn't an idiot. On the contrary, he was very smart.

Léon remembered that the person renting the apartment opposite him was a young, handsome Asian man.

That Asian guy also had some "unspeakable relationship" with his neighbor, the plump Mrs. Margie.

On many nights, Léon had seen the flirtatious Mrs. Margie enter the Asian guy's apartment more than once.

Then, a few hours later, Mrs. Margie would walk out of the opposite apartment, supporting herself against the wall, looking exhausted but satisfied.

Although Léon the Hitman had no romantic history to date, nor any adult life...

It didn't mean he was ignorant of such things.

After all, late-night TV channels in the US aired adult programs.

Although Léon wasn't interested, he had been curious in the past and had watched them.

So, he could roughly guess what happened between the flirtatious neighbor lady and the Asian hunk living opposite him.

Precisely because he discovered that the Asian guy didn't seem simple...

Although Léon had encountered him several times in the building and the guy was very friendly...

Léon had always been wary of him and kept him at arm's length.

His subconscious told him that the Asian guy would be trouble.

Equally troublesome was another neighbor of Léon's—Michael, Mrs. Margie's husband.

Léon had investigated that guy when he moved in. He was a down-and-out thug.

However, recently, this guy had somehow gotten involved with the corrupt cop Stansfield.

As a hitman, Léon knew a lot of intelligence unknown to others.

For instance, Stansfield, a senior agent of the Los Angeles DEA (Narcotics Bureau), was privately a notorious drug lord.

This guy was very difficult to deal with, and his methods were insidious.

Therefore, many people had actually thought about hiring a hitman to deal with Stansfield.

Léon's handler/broker (Tony) had received similar inquiries.

However, Stansfield's status was too special.

He was ostensibly a senior DEA agent. His broker worried that killing this guy would trigger a serious government investigation.

So, he turned down several contracts regarding Stansfield for Léon.

He didn't expect his neighbor would one day get mixed up with Stansfield.

Holding his weapon, Léon remained cautiously on guard.

He subsequently heard a few more gunshots, followed by screams and noise that gradually drifted away.

He quickly ran to the window and observed from above for a while.

After confirming that the group had left, he finally breathed a sigh of relief, put away the gun, and hid it again.

Meanwhile, at the FBI Los Angeles Field Office, dozens of kilometers away.

In an office, several senior FBI agents and supervisors gathered together.

Placed on the desk in the office was an opened letter.

The Director of the FBI LA Field Office, Phil Harris, finished reading the letter quickly.

Then he looked at them and asked, "Gentlemen, is there any problem with this report letter?"

As the Director of the FBI LA Field Office, Phil Harris's daily work was very complicated.

Most of the time, he was busy dealing with bureaucracy involving the LA police system, the narcotics system (DEA), and the IRS.

Specific operational arrangements and cases were rarely sent to him.

But today, his subordinates brought this one up.

Several senior agents looked at each other, then turned to a black Deputy Director standing nearby.

The black Deputy Director sensed their gaze and spoke up proactively: "Director, this looks like just an ordinary drug tip-off."

"However, it shouldn't be that simple."

"You may not know, but the apartment where the reported drug stash is located—Michael's residence..."

"Is in the exact same building where the FBI is currently monitoring another suspected person involved in a case."

"Also, regarding the 'Stansfield' mentioned in the case..."

"We at the FBI have actually heard of him for a long time. He's a very troublesome guy."

Hearing this, Phil Harris immediately perked up.

He looked straight at the black Deputy Director. "Frye, can you be more specific?"

"Sure!"

Deputy Director Frye nodded and continued: "In the apartment building where Michael lives, the target the FBI is currently monitoring is named Hunter Sun, a Chinese-American youth."

"Witnesses confirmed that he might be involved in the California highway robberies we've been investigating for a while."

"Hunter Sun likely didn't participate in those dozen highway robberies."

"But information suggests he is likely dating Mia Toretto, the sister of Dominic Toretto, who has fled and vanished without a trace."

"We suspect Hunter Sun is still in contact with the Toretto siblings, so we've been monitoring him recently."

Phil Harris frowned: "From what you're saying, you haven't found evidence yet?"

Deputy Director Frye opened his mouth but nodded helplessly.

"Yes, we haven't been able to secure evidence, and we can't confirm for now if he's still in contact with the Toretto siblings."

"This kid is very cautious. He shook off our agents several times when they tailed him during the day."

"This forces us to suspect whether he has already discovered he is being monitored."

Phil Harris thought with a frown for a while before asking, "What about that Stansfield? What's his situation?"

"He is a senior agent at the DEA (Narcotics Bureau). We've heard a lot of rumors. We suspect this guy might be using his position to traffic drugs secretly!"

One sentence immediately made Phil Harris realize the implications.
