Chapter 296 - A Delayed Discovery, an Unexpected Windfall

Not long after the door closed, Mindy looked over at her father, who seemed to have suffered some enormous blow.

He sat there in a daze, just staring at the head of the big drug lord Frank D'Amico placed in front of him, saying nothing.

"Dad!"

Mindy called out to him.

Seeing that Damon still did not respond, she began to wriggle her body with effort.

Finally, after one or two minutes of struggling, she managed to grab the butterfly knife Hunter had kicked over to her and her father before leaving.

With the butterfly knife in hand, Mindy quickly cut through the rope binding her.

Then she stood up quickly, enduring the soreness from the kick she had taken earlier.

She hurried to untie the ropes around her father Damon.

Looking at her father, who still had not said a word, the little girl did not know what had happened to him.

"Dad."

She looked worriedly at her father.

After living together for more than ten years, this was the first time Mindy had seen her usually strict father make such an expression.

Although Mindy was very mature for her age, after thinking for a long time she could only barely find a few words from her not-so-large vocabulary to describe the expression on her father's face at that moment.

Disappointment, shock, regret, daze, helplessness.

It was the first time she had ever seen her father look so fragile.

For a moment, she could only stand there blankly, not knowing how to comfort him.

Fortunately, adults were called adults for a reason.

Even when they were deep in pain, even when they were heartbroken, they could still recover quickly in front of the people they needed to protect.

"Dad is fine."

Damon forced out a smile.

He saw that his daughter was looking at him with a slightly blurred expression.

He knew that the handsome Asian young man who had just called himself an assassin had smashed his head and caused him to bleed quite a lot.

He reached up to wipe it, but accidentally touched the wound on his forehead that had been smashed open by the metal gun butt.

He could not help drawing in a breath of cold air.

"Mindy, go lock the door first."

"Okay!"

Mindy responded obediently and went to lock the door.

Then, without needing her father to tell her, she went to get disinfectant alcohol, gauze, and bandages.

Looking at how obedient his little daughter was, Damon's eyes were full of tenderness.

But in his mind, he somehow suddenly thought of what the Asian young man had said earlier about his eldest daughter, Telly.

Thinking that the other party had said Telly had once fallen into the hands of a Russian gang and had only been rescued by him a few months earlier, Damon, who had once been a retired police officer with the New York police, immediately drew on his decades of law-enforcement experience and imagined the miserable experiences his eldest daughter might have gone through.

His heart ached at once, and then even more anger and regret surged up.

But when Damon looked again at the drug lord Frank's head inside the travel bag on the floor, gratitude and guilt appeared together.

At the same time, Damon once again realized that the motivation that had kept him alive and fighting for nearly ten years was now gone.

In that instant, a sense of confusion once again flooded his heart.

For a moment, he suddenly did not know whether he should continue training his youngest daughter Mindy, or what he should do next.

Hunter naturally did not know that his sudden visit had caused a man who had been living for revenge to lose the will to keep living for a while.

But even if he had known, he would not have cared.

After changing to another motorcycle, he soon returned to Jane's home.

The door was indeed locked, but that was no problem for Hunter, who had lockpicking skills.

Very quickly, he entered the killer wife's bedroom.

Before long, the regular sounds of intimate activity rang out.

It went on for several hours.

After taking a shower to wash away the smell of sweat and blood, Hunter did not fall asleep like that killer wife did.

Still highly energized that night, he put on a robe and walked out of the bathroom into the villa's living room.

By now, he had already been living at Jane's place for some time.

He might even know her home better than she did.

Because of that, he was very clear about one thing now.

There were no surveillance cameras or the like in Jane's house.

So after looking around, Hunter boldly took a safe out of his private space!

This safe was one he had obtained more than half a month earlier.

Back when he was in Las Vegas helping Perkins complete her commission, he had found it in the mansion of her target, Vera Zielski.

Because of his private space, Hunter had simply taken the heavy safe away then and there.

After that, even he had forgotten that he had such a harvest.

It was only tonight, when he raided the New York drug lord Frank's residence and found several more safes in his villa, that Hunter suddenly remembered it.

He then planned to take it out of his private space tonight and see what was inside.

Hunter quickly took out a set of professional lockpicking tools from his private space.

Then, right there in the living room of Jane's house, he got to work.

Since he was not worried about anyone coming over, he did not bother trying to crack it quickly.

As a result, Hunter spent a full ten or so minutes before finally opening the safe with a hiss of released air.

The safe had five layers from top to bottom, and each layer contained something.

The bottom three compartments held more than a dozen gold bars, along with some diamonds and gems.

Hunter did not really understand why American rich people liked these things, but the safes he had stolen and opened all contained similar items.

He glanced at them briefly and did not hurry to collect them.

Looking further up, the fourth compartment held several luxury watches and rings inlaid with large gemstones.

Hunter recognized those watches.

Each one cost more than a million dollars.

As for the gemstone rings, with their huge multicolored stones, they probably were not cheap either.

The fifth compartment contained a few bank cards and a stack of document-like items.

Hunter only looked once before a smile appeared on his face.

He was very familiar with this stuff.

Bearer bonds, one of the favorite ways for American rich people to hide their wealth.

Hunter quickly took them out and looked them over.

His smile only grew wider.

These bearer bonds were worth at least two hundred million dollars.

He truly had not expected that when he went to help Perkins, he would also end up with such a rich unexpected harvest.
